hey? what car? the fabricated steel mounts don't modification to clear the oil return.
Any clues as to how the mount should clear the oil return line on the exhaust side?
I don't like the idea of grinding 20mm from the mount. A few pics that I have seen show the return line missing? In which case, where is the return placed?
Please help!
Cheers
Stu

Its an RA23 but thats irrelevant at the moment. I'm bolting up all of the mounts prior to sitting it in the car.
The bolt holes line up, but I can't get the mount to sit against the block. It looks as if there needs to be more of an angle on the mount in order for it to clear.
I originally thought that perhaps the mounts were on the wrong sides, but they aren't interchangable.
Perhaps the mounts off the GZE aren't a direct swap. Obviously, the GZE doesn't have to worry about a return line like the GTE's.
Stu, are you mounting the brackets to the frontmost set of holes on the block? I don't recall having a problem with the oil return line in my 28, but that was 5 years ago!!.
If I am wrong, and that happens !! A possible solution, if you have a ridgid return line, cut a section out, and run a flexible line.
cheers Chuck.

Im running the forward holes of the old mounts and then the next 2 holes in front of them.
This may sound like a stupid question, but what colour are the mounts?
(Don't say Metal Coloured....)
Basically the fabricated steel mounts should have the right bolt holes and will mounts flat to the engine.
That said, I thought the mounts I used were gge ones, not gze ones.
Sounds like you are running the correct position though.
This photo should explain everything my friend.. :-)

They are the mounts (black) - what is metal coloured???
I've been doing some searching and this has come up on the old website. The solution then was to move it with the aid of a big hammer. I've tried this, but I'm not at all happy with it. The top of the return line for the front turbo is now restricted as that the first section to start bending.
I've got a spare return line, so i think I'll hit the return line some more, then cut and shut the replacement line.
Any alternative suggestions?
Incidentally, you've got a plate over your return line - how are you getting the oil back to the sump?
A) the mount in that photo was un-modified. Fitted the way it came.
B) That plate was removed. Let me see if I can find you a photo with a proper line.
This one shows you the oil return line. Doesn'thave the mount over it though for some reason.

That somewhat straightens out a few things - you're not running the standard return line. You have a flexi braided hose in place of the rigid setup. I think that I'll just have to go with cutting and shutting the return line.

I have a sneaking feeling that a mate of mine ran the standard turbo return line with the mount that your talking about. and it worked.
That said, it's real easy to make the return line, just put some braided line over the cut off end of the solid line and then clamp it on.

i have these on my motor sitting in my project shell.
modification is only required when using these mounts in the rear position. Then its cut the centre support and open it slightly wider then reweld.
Can get photos if required.
