Don't get too carried away with the height change or the cable will foul on the console.
If it does, you can just kink the end of the cable a little and it still works fine![]()
I don't know if anybody has been doing this to there AW11 shifters, but thought I'd post it anyway, its an easy way to make your own shortshift
Just a simple bit of plate steel with a small curve in it and 2 holes, 5 min job, it made a very big difference.

Yes very true, I found my max cable height by pushing the cable to replicate 2nd ,4th and reverse, then lifted the cable up towards the console so it was just clearing, I had the additional made bracket bolted onto the shifter beforehand ,so all I had to do was mark with pen where to drill for the cable and that seemed to work well
I actually have an alloy plate going the other way on mine. I origonally cut the tab off and moved it up the stick "a long way". This was nice and gave a nice short shift. Then I bought a sperical shift know which the stick goes basically to the top off which made the shift uncomfortably short.
Then I had to get a custom shift cable made for the 3S box and the agles involved made it a pain in the arse to shift so I made the plate to drop the cable back donw a bit.
I recently installed a 93 mr2 short shifter in mine. An ebay knockoff. Its going into gear nicely now. Very very short.
Hey Feral, is that piece of plate steel thicker in the first pic to get the shifter lower so the cable will have better clearance to give you even more adjustment in cable position on the shifter?
sorry long question, but am I right, or is that plate there for some reason?
Yes the plate is there to drop the whole assembly down about 8 mm.
Me and Cam did this to his AW11 today. Made the throws shorter and just like feral, Cam said that the shifts are nicer, not as notchy and feel more precise now! Go figure.
By the way, we didn't put a bend into the metal plate. Just a piece of straight scrap metal.
Feral, thats a smart idea spacing the shifter lower like that. Means you can raise the hieght of the cable higher without it fouling the consol and have even shorter throws!

when I did mine a year ago, I just got an sw20 shifter, which is shorter, rewelded the tag about 15mm higher and built a 4mm plate to drop it down further.
