Hey guys people talk aobut these "shock spacers" that are used to fit shocks into the struts, does anyone have any info on these as im using a strange shock/strut combo and need to get some spacers (and re cut/weld the struts for length)
Ah, yeah. The single pot struts are the same, i just went out and confirmed that, since we have single potters. Might go out soon and pick up those other struts from U-pull it.
Also, your car isnt that bad. Certainly squeals the tyres nicely coming out of the esses.

Yeah, im using the HTS102s which require severe strut shortening, but im using 20mm spacers rather than cutting a full 70mm out. Basically you can just use a piece of thickwall tube which fits around the bottom of the shock as a spacer. Just measure it up nicely.

takai you dont have any pics or diagrams of how this works? i cna sorta visulise it but not quite im using 86411308 sport Konis which fit the stut but require some shortenting, i just gotta work out wheather i want the shock higher or lower in the strut (for bound/bump adjustment ranges) and where the coilover sleve should sit over the strut

Its just a basic "step" used to make the insert sit at the right height in the strut itself, usually an insert that has the shorter stroke but sits a bit too low if you get what i mean. Bit hard to explain![]()
Cheers
You definately want it higher in the strut, otherwise you are artifically reducing suspension travel, which in 99.9% of cases isnt needed. And to be honest if you dont already know about spacers then you wont know if you fall into that 0.1% who would benefit from having the range lower. No offence intended.
Its somewhat hard to visualise, but basically you end up with the shock sitting ontop of the spacer inside the strut. Ill see if i can knock up a dodgy paint job soon.

takai,
I know about spacers but i have never actually seen one in the flesh, which is more what im wanting, that diagram is very helpful thnx for that i know my spring rates and corner weights so will be able to work out pretty exact spacer vs strut length to get a good even starting point on bump/bound and then work from there
Ahh, ok, now i understand.
Basically all it is a piece of thickwall tube cut to the right length. The electrical or gaffa tape is normally added to simply stop the tube falling off the end of the strut when inserting/removing.
Didnt mean to assume you were a n00b either.

Anyone wanting to do this conversion on a TA, you need to use a TA strut top and upper spring retainer, that said i have a set of springs that were custom wound springs to fit, that now i have coilovers i dont need, PM me if interested they are lowered and stiffer than stock, i was going to use them in the track car untill i decide to go coilovers
mate any luck with doing a write up on the custom coilovers?
would be very interested!!!
Given the interest in the C/P/H combination and coilovers ill do a writeup of building the two new sets we have going on.
If you can hold on a week or so.....
EDIT: So i got bored, and started procrastinating tonight. Here is the guide: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=13803
