I have just about finished my conversion,
im using shortened corona struts, coilovers (wleded sleves) ln106 calipers pug rotors, and thast about it
HI Guys, I am trawling through the many disparate threads about ta22 brake upgrades.
I have found a lot of information about the Ln106/XT130/PUG604 conversion and some on bolting the ta23 brakes straight in plus numerous others.
Now I was wondering if there is a FAQ or ONE main thread with a step by step guide that I’ve stumbled past?
Please feel free to share your set-ups and feelings on the conversions!
After going for a fun filled bash at Malalah anything is going to be better than my ta22 brakes and I want to start hunting down some parts.
It was my 1st time and day was great fun, even tho I was the 2nd slowest car on the track![]()
I went out with the cams full license holders as Rex and his dad were both out and I wanted to race with them. It was pretty amusing getting passed while my 2tg was rocketing me to around 145kms on the straight.
I even spun a couple times and didn’t quite brake enough at the end of the straight… The suspension needs some work also. But lots of fun, and it changes the way you look at a car. From that day I cant stop thinking about how to make it go faster.
I will also go straight for the coilover setup, i want the car to handle as well so someting that will increase track will be desirable
If anyone hasn’t been, its great fun, even if just watching. The next one is on the 21st of October
Thanks for your help, and yes I am using the search function! My eyes sting.

I am seriously considering this conversion, how much did you shorten the struts down? 1"?
Are you using standard control arms? I am also considering some slightly longer arms from a later model celica.
Im using RA arm (slightly longer)
I havnt wellded the struts up yet but we took abotu 1 -2 inches out of them
if it would be helpfull i might write up a step by step article on the process
If you could that would be great.Originally Posted by merc-blue

There's no simple brake upgrade, everything will need modifying/customisation.
The $1000 hopper stoppers upgrade might be bolt in though.
The hopper stoppers break upgrade should be pretty much bolt up. As long as they send you the correct hubs & not accidentally the wrong 1’s as has happened to me. Mine cost me $1600.
I haven’t finished putting them in as yet so cant tell you how they go. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has don this upgrade.

this may help u

i didn't shorten the struts (rt132 IIRC) and i used the ta22 lowered springs in my setup. so not coilovers.
but you'll get the general jist by the master cylinder and stuff i got up to.
Thanks for the info and suggestions
Looks like the xt130 struts it is.
I went to a wrecker and pulled the struts and lca's from a xt130. All of the balljoints and hubs look pretty good too. Damn dirty, greasy car it was though
Im going to hunt down a pair of calipers, although i am going to see if any other lighter calipers will bolt up to the xt130 strut.

I am doing a very similar thing to my new project... I want to go to mallala, that's why my first plans are suspension and brakes.... sounds like you had great fun
with those corona struts you should have twin piston calipers??
a conversion that I had in my green ra28 had the corona struts, with machined down pug rotors, and instead of the hilux 4 piston calipers there was a spacer made up to go in the original corona twin piston caliper.... if you look closely you will see that you can unbolt it and in turn make a spacer for the extra width of the vented pug rotor...
hope this helps some....
cant wait to get on the track.

Also Rex will be doing that pair of struts quite soon if you want to see what he is doing.

Hi, i got them from U-pull it at Elizabeth so we pulled the struts and control arms out. Pretty dirt job... Rex was good enough to help, we got cooked in that sun.Originally Posted by takai
That was the last one with the twin pot calipers in the yard. There was another xt130 but it was slightly older and had one pot calipers so im not sure if it uses the same bracket. Actually i havent measured mine yet either so i will go and check in a min. Also mine were dark blue in colour, for some reason i thought they would be black.
Ive fitted some rear trailing arms with nolathane bushes whuch should be a slight improvement considering the old bushes were pretty old.
Hey snyper, yeah i'm sure the conversion will be better than what i have now, although i binned those calipers as they have a pretty small pad and i doubt you can get many of the decent pads in that size.?
The track really, really shows how lame my lowered industrial springs and "red" shocks really are. The body roll was epic![]()
Hope to see you on the track, my hack car is one of the slowest around, but its still loads of fun and great as a hack for a novice like me.
Now to see if i can fit any other decent calipers and find some wheels that will fit. Maybe some of those 15" supra wheels if i can get my hands on some...
Cheers
Also i found this link below via the search function.
There seems to be a couple ways to access the old tech articles and there is an article of this conversion for the ae86 which is useful. I use the save link as option as pdf's tend to crash out my pc.
