I watched that thread closely and only after he admitted openly that he was just here to sell stuff did his rep plummit. Before that it was at -8 (look at it now). He was never going to provide any knowledge to the site and he admitted as much hence the low rep. Those that wish to say after a battering about the FAQ's often make a recovery from an apology of some sort. Those that want to stay, end up staying. If they had no intention of staying to begin with and only want to sell stuff, why is that our problem?

And, to show I'm not a totally heartless bastard I gave Booyah83 some +rep, with the comment "You got reamed, but more than you deserve, so here's some rep to help you get back - river". He's now on -16 and hopefully has learned a lesson and will bounce back and become a well-loved and useful resource for these forums.

I think it would be prudent when the wookies come blundering in for those who -rep him to say, in the post, that you've given them a rep slap. Hopefully, others coming in for the blood will see the wookie has already been hit and will refrain from piling on more -ve rep. This is to stop the -ve rep bandwagon.

PS: It amuses me that I rarely -ve rep and the Bexi thread happened to be one of them, yet no one whinges or complains when I give them a good dose of +ve rep!!!!!

UPDATE 3:40pm: At 2:20pm Booyha83 was on -16 (as mentioned above). The thread was locked and yet it must be still open to receive rep 'cos his rep is now -21! I think that thread needs to be deleted to save him from more -ve rep.

Just my tuppence on the -ve rep thing..

I think that if someone makes a post that earns them massive -ve reppage then it should be made so once one of the more senior members has -ve repped them no more -ve rep can be given to that person for that particular thread....I.E someone comes on and asks 'oh I cant put anything for sale' or starts a thread bragging about teh fooly sik street doriftorz once someone with say over 300rep points has -ve repped that person no-one else can do it either..

Indeed. The best way is for whoever does the -ve repping to also put in their post that "Jobloggs was on 10 pts and I -ve repped him and now he's on 6 points. I don't think there's any more need to hit him with -ve rep". That's about the best you can do, and then hope other people will refrain from hitting the person again with -ve rep.

Of course, I assume people would still come in and give them a verbal..... just no more -ve repping.

But what happens if like the previous case, the person involved just keeps getting ruder and ruder towards the members who are correcting his faults? I think 1 neg rep per post should be OK, but 1 per topic can be a little leaniant in some cases. I wonder if it can be written into the script?

However it also raises the fact that repping is an annonomous for all other then the repper and the repee. If you want to allow only one 'senoir member's' neg rep how do you decide that, and how do you know if a 'senior member' has been the one who neg repped, or if it was 5 'newbies'. If it were written into the script that you can only neg rep once, what is to stop a 'newbie' being the 1st to neg rep, thus not having the same impact of a 'senior member' doing the neg repping.

hmmm yeah I see your point blue...On one hand its to variable to be changing it..like sometimes you want to -ve rep someone off the board but sometimes just 1 -ve rep is enough to point them in the right direction, I dont think you can account for stuff like that in the script....but then on the other hand I think sometimes it goes abit to far and the club is at risk of pushing new members away becuase 30 people go and -ve rep someone, I should imagine they could feel quite hurt by it and not everyone is clued up on teh interwebsorz or forum etiquette.
