i only strike -4 because im not a post whore and dont have my count up yet

but yeah, i agree - bandwagon repping is no good. but that needs to be regulated on an individual level, and theres no way to control it. i do feel that use of the rep system is appropriate overall, and noone likes neg rep, and folks who get it will be careful not to get it again. others who observe the onslaught pull their heads in. its a good thing - self regulation at its finest - and ITS WORKING!!

And this is the beauty of the system. If you want to see newbies get slapped even harder then just go have a look at PF, where its more like a turkey slapping.

While the occasional newbie might get a reasonable slapping for being silly or not reading, most of the time their rep will bounce back quickly, and it can all move on. Certainly weeds out the wookies though.

Edit: and see, Bexi is up to 11 now, thats 1 more than to start with...

    hey my 2c.
i don't reckon you should be neg repped for asking a Q.

when i joined these fora i asked a some dumb questions. i was fortunate that they were specific so some of the **big hitters** didn't get me. the people who did reply were generally polite, if not a little terse, and had just some advice like "just search for .." as total response. the Q's were generally aimed at a specific previous poster, so that poster often replied with the info or where i could find it.
having observed what has been levelled at some other "noobs" i feel for them. if you're cut down you may, especially early on, you may never go on to become a **big hitter** because you don't feel that the group is very supportive.
if you met a guy in the carpark and he said "mate love ur work, but how did you do that?" would you tell them to F/O and go look up a tech article? some, maybe.
personally i wouldn't neg rep for a stupid Q, ever. as i teach young people to handle very fast and complex machines in training process which takes up to 12 months [or more for the part timers], you get the same Q over and over. i always say the only stupid Q is the one you don't ask. sure it is frustrating being asked repeatedly, and that's why the FAQ's were created, right?
I defer to those who know more, and you always find at least one, but i reckon a simple reply like "mate, if you search for ..." or post a link, and add "BTW the etiquette is do the search and then ask"
maybe when someone signs up they get sent an email "starters package" which could just outline what's expected.

    again my 2c. although i don't agree w/ the language i do agree w/ what coFF33 and dimmy77_03 said!

    1. There's no point arguing with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
    2. Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference

Good post but technically when you sign up to the forums you should have read the rules at which you agree to by clicking the I agree box.

A workplace is completely different to a forum because well there isn't a search function, but generally there is an FAQ, everyone at my workplace is provided with a manual that goes through the basic office procedures and ettiquite .

For the first day your task is simply to sit down and read it, then they'll give you work to do.

The rules are simple and in general if people actually used some grey matter before starting a new thread then the issue could be avoided altogether.

There is a sticky at the top of every classified page, the FAQ, the search function, quite simply if people aren't able to use one of these things and they have used a forum before they probably deserve the serving they get.

There are forums out there that will ban you for linking to an ebay sale, hell you can't even type the name of the calais turbo forums on street commodores. Toymods is nothing in comparision.

Yeah its about 300 pages long but that also includes chart of accounts, basic letters etc etc first 30 odd pages are basic office stuff though, back on topic.

I would also like to commend bexi on his maturity in handling the situation in the end, things could of turned uglier like they did in the other thread, when I can pos rep you bexi I will.
