any better explanation, im trying to think what you mean !
Hey guys.
I've developed a serious oil leak from my 3SGTE. Its in a ST165 (incase that matters). The leak is coming from a silver metal box-like thing on the front of the engine, right above the cross member, directly under the inlet side of the turbo.
The box has a rippled metal oil line that meets up under the turbo.
I don't know what this thing does or what its called but it is leaking from what looks to be a pressed metal join on the box, not where it meets the block.
Is it serviceable?
Is it replaceable?
Any clues will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers guys

The oil/water cooler?
I think from seeing this picture i found on UK GT4's that its the oil/water cooler you suggested.
Red line is the seal its leaking from.
Yellow line is where on the thing its leaking (underneath)

Well that area you've circled is the turbo oil-return line which feeds back in through that banjo-bolt / union bolt (big bugger it is too), although I've never seen that metal casing around it before or the smaller diameter pipes that come away from it.![]()
id be getting a new one of those coolers. i think thats what it is. looks like those two smaller pipes carry coolant and the large one has oil going through it into the cooler.
if one of those smaller pipes is split away from the box, you can try and get it tig welded up. otherwise you will have to replace it.

any further info on what the thing is called to help the parts department would be great.
Also if anyone has pulled one off before, i'd love a few pointers.
Thanks again fella's
I guess the best way would be to ring someone like Chatswood Toyota's Parts Dept (02) 9201 4444 and ask them as they're usually fairly switched-on with this kind of stuff, or I found them better to deal with parts-enquiries-wise. These guys should be able to tell you without too much fuss.![]()
Find someone on here with a BGB that covers the 165?
I have one but it only covers the 185 onwards. Probably the same part number?

You guys are awesome.
That picture is spot on.
Same picture and id numbers toyota list from japan.
And that manual is GOLD.
Only problem now is the part cost $590.
So i'm hoping if i pull it apart i can replace the seals and all will be good.
Thanks again guys.
The forums have shown how useful they can be.
Without you guys i'd be lost and covered in oil right now.
Good Work
