Camry aircon question
Can anyone help???
My Wife's SV21 camry, (3S-FE MPFI) has a problem, when the aircon is switched on the engine idle speed does not increase to compensate for the extra load. Everything is set correctly eg: Idle speed, timing - runs like a dream otherwise. I have a Haynes manual, It said to check the control unit - all ok, the Idle speed control valve - all ok, and the "Air conditioning amplifier" - that's where I get stuck. I can't find it!!! I'm assuming it's a circuit board of some sort, but the manual doesn't show a picture or tell you where this thing is located, it just says how to test it.
Any help is greatly appreciated, cheers, Andrew

Re: Camry aircon question
I suspect it may be attached to the housing for the aircon evaporator under the dash. look for wiring going to a connector which will be plugged into a small circuit board housed in part of the housing.

Thanks for that, I know where the evaporator is so I'll start there.
Cheers, Andrew.

Re: Camry aircon question
On most toyotas removing the glove box door will gain you access to the air con amplifier, it will be somewhere within eyeshot of there - normally on top of the evaporator box
An easier way of doing it would be to put a multimeter to the two(?) wires on the air con idle up valve in the engine bay, switch the air con on/off with the motor running and see that something happens with it - normally the air con idle up valves are just left of the wiper motor with two vacuum lines running back to the intake manifold somewhere
Of course first check the vacuum lines are hooked up to this correctly - I'm not sure if you're already done this.. you said you'd checked the ISCV

Re: Camry aircon question
I think from memory there is a adjustable valve and a solenoid on or near the inlet manifold near the clutch master cylinder (or where it would be with manual box) mine had a yellow plastic dial which adjusted how much air went in when the air con was on.
basically when air con goes on the valve gets power and lets some air bypass the throttle body via this screw thing. The valve has 2 wires join one to ground and the other to the wire that goes to the clutch on the compressor and it should work.
