    Default 2SC Cam not moving...

    Hey All,

My 2SC ran rough for 1 Kilometer then came to a complete holt, stalling on me. Now when I try and crank the motor over the cam doesn't turn... I can see a lot of oil at the bottom of the engine near the crank, I pulled the plugs out and there is no wet oil on the plugs...

Also how do you remove the timing belt (move the timing belt tentioner) as I have no clue how to undo it...

    Any help would be great...

    Cheers.

loosen the bolt holding the tentioner and then you should be able to slide the belt off.

buy a gregorys manual they only cost like $20-30 and will tell you everything you need to know.

but it doesn't sounds good at all. start motor could be jammed but wouldn't explain it stalling, engine could of seized, broken crankshaft etc. Good luck on fixing it

Like Jackel said, loosen the nut or bolt on the middle of the tensioner pulley, lever the pulley back and tighten bolt/nut.

If the belt isn't broken then it is a good chance the cam has siezed in the head, try to turn with a spanner once the belt is off and if it moves then it could be something else.
Sounds like the belt stripped some teeth once the cam siezed though if it isn't broken.

I'd say a few teeth have sheared off the belt around the crank pulley sprocket.

Just a little note for you to remember on this. If you have cranked the motor over, without the cam turning you could now have other problems.
Just remember, if that cam is not turning then there could be some open valves.
    1/ broken cam.
    2/ bent valves.
    3/ piston damage.
I would NOT turn the motor over any more untill you lift the rocker cover off and check everything under there.

99.99999% of Toyota motors pre 1995 are non-interference.

    Hey All,

Update is that we changed the timing belt and still it doesn't fire up. The cam sprocket turns but very notchy so we presume that there the cam is stuffed. For a car that has done 650,000kms since new we can't really complain. Now we are just figuring out if it's worth getting another motor or just buying another car to replace the daily driver...

    Cheers.

I think you'll find that it will turn "notchy" like... it's normal for it to do that! The cam is pushing against the valves, so it only makes sense that it will turn easy for a bit, then be harder to turn (pushing on the valve) then easy again...
