    Default 2jz Vvt Ftl!!!!!!

Hey Guys, just trying to find out more infor for my 2JZ VVT-i engine and hoping you can help.

Aparently Haltech can't vary the intake cam and feel that its a mechanical problem and nothing to do with the ECU side of things.

I have pulled out the solenoid and put 12V to it and it triggers the pluger fine. I then refitted the soleniod with the engine running and applied 12V again thinking that the engine would want to stall. This did not happen - it ran fine. I've been told by a mate who knows his Toyotas that if it didn't want to stall the solenoid is busted and to buy a new one.

Anyone care to comment on my findings? I have no issue buying a new solenoid they are cheap from Castle Hill Toyota and they even have one in stock

But if this doesn't fix it i'll be less than impressed.

    Cheers

Thats the the way Lexus trained people are taught how to do it , Its even in the Lexus workshop manual , apply battery voltage to the solonoid , the engine should run rough or stall

    ok - post edited

but i stand by my scepticism - all that enabling the vvti will do is open up the overlap and allow a bit of leak down and blow through. sure as shit ill be suprised if it stalls

Apparently the solenoid is energised during cranking of engine to allow more breathing for start up, once the engine fires upo it is turned off and than re-energised at approx 4000rpm.
Since you have VVT-I, the standard computer uses the rear camshaft angle sensor to vary the operating times of the solenoid.

I believe VVT is an on off type of switching where as VVTi is continuously variable. VVTi is far harder to control and I dont know of a 2j with the simple VVT, only the VVTi.

Edit: The Haltech can probably only control VVT.

AFAIK at the moment there's only two aftermarket ECU's that'll control VVT-i.
    Motec M400/600/800 and Autronic.

    Wolf V500 can do it.

Won't be long before Adaptronic can too.
