You can buy adapters to fit a T2/T3 turbo to the standard CT26 manifold, they sometimes appear on ebay (US mainly).
i have a 1991 GT4 celica with teh 3sgte motor in it, it is still fitted with teh standard ct26 turbo but it has been rebuilt and hi flowed with 450HP internals, but it is still the bush bearing center or whatever they are.
now what i want to do is sell this turbo and upgrade to a ball bearing turbo. i have just bought a stainless steel manifold to suit the ct26 but i'm thinking along the lines of a garret turbo, so i need to know what flange pattern is on the ct26 and could it be modified on the manifold to suit a more typical flange pattern like a t25 or t3 style if it doesn't already bolt on???
also while i'm here, i'm guessing that there isn't any problems in having a 0.7A/R front cover on a turbo and fitting it in the standard position, other than having new oil and water lines required to fit a garret turbo.

Yep, buy an adapter. Alternatively, buy any turbo you want, then have your manifold flange changed to suit the new turbo - this will also "free up space" - which will be something desirable when you consider the cramped conditions the turbo resides in, on an ST185.
buy the flanges you want from gcg or similar, buy the turbo you want, take it all to an exhaust shop, and tell em to make it fit. Shouldn't be a hassle.
I've seen an adapter made out of square pipe and those adapters, a bit agricultural, but it does the job nicely.

What i'm planning to do for my mr2 is get a t3 adapter for the stainless steel manifold i'v got and get a garrett gt28 turbo. Supposed to be very well suited to the 3sgte.
Cheers

yeah i think i might go with a t3 flange from GCG and just cut up the stainless manifold to fit it.
how do the gt4's go with something like a GT30 ball bearing turbo? thats basically what i'm planning. i pulled over 250rwkw out of my 180sx with the GT30 i had on it, so should i expect similar power out of the GT4?
whats teh power limit of a std bottom end on these things?
also teh turbo that i have on it now is a high flowed turbo rated at 450HP, it goes pretty well, but i'd like it all done right.. obviously i can't sell the turbo here because i don't use these forums much, so i might just put it on ebay. what sort of price should i expect for such a turbo? basically brand new...
Check out the GT4 dedicated thread there are several good exmaples of 250kw at all fours.

gt30 should be good, just dont use too big of a turbine wheel cos it could be a fair bit laggy. Wouldn't go pushin the gen 2 motor bottom end too much. I'd say no more than 300-350rwhp max on stock engine. What type of high flow is it, 52,56,60 trim. They usually go for about $7-800 second hand.

i would expect ~220awkw from a GT30 (with full supporting mods) but to get the most out of it u would need larger injectors, ECU, and obviously the usual stuff like exhaust and intake.Originally Posted by tai_180sx

Depending on the condition of your engine, but there are certainly people in the states that have run huge power on standard bottom end with larger cams and a MHG. depends on how brave you are, how good the tune is, and what not.
As for your turbo, if it was recently hi-flowed (which it sounds like it was) i would imagine ~600-800 without too much of a drama!

i would get that much for the turbo??? hmmm, i'm asking too little.. i'm about to list it on ebay for only $400...
i've been offered a deal by one of the sponsors on nissansilvia.com for a cheap turbo, i'm thinking i might try it out. its not ball bearings, but for the price you can't really go wrong.
and also i have an aftermarket computer, fuel pump, injectors, coilovers all lined up ready to go. it'll be a project for the end of this year.
What price on what turbo? I am currently in the market for a turbo?

not sure i want to sell it just yet... talking to a guy today and we are thinking we might try and push the turbo and see how it goes.
No I don't want to buy yours
I was talking about the one you got offered!

the gt30r on a 3sgte spools up from around 3000rpm and comes on real hard at around 3600 - 3800. with the .63 rear.
a little bit laggy, but theres no stopping you once your on boost. being the gt4 it shoudlnt be a problem , launch off, and the lag issue is solved.
i used a custom manifold, so i dont know about position but id imagine it would be mighty close to the bonnet/radiator with an adaptor in there as well as the .7 front cover.
heres an idea of one sittin in my engine bay. room and size wise.
the flange is probably 20mm off the radiator core. would be different with the stock manifold obviously

I have a query.
Have just got a new turbo for the car, ...a highflowed CT26, yet from another model to mine..(165).
Oil and Water line troubles....(only for owners of 165, the oil lines are different on the other 3sgte's )
I was going to go to Pirtek tommorrow and get them to put two flex bits in, and cut the bracket piece so I can manuver them, ....Is there an alternative...any ideas, or experiences.
