in a bit of an anger tiff just now as i was leaving the gf's house i revved the MR2 a bit too high redlining it and not getting any rear wheelspin, instead an ominous burning smell...
had to nurse the bitch all the way home but heres whats basically happening.. first feels a bit sandpapery... second seems to go okay till about 3000 revs, and then the revs suddenly jump as i press further on it... like, its like the cars just jumped to neutral and suddenly revs up to about 5000 as if the power isnt getting to the wheels.. same deal with third... revs seem to skyrocket but no power going to the wheels.. 4th havent tested yet...
i think ive screwed my clutch up bad. can anyone confirm that its this and not my diff or gearbox? it really feels like its slipping between a certain rev range..

Diff/gearbox will be noisy if their gone.
Yep this will happen when you come on torque.slipping between a certain rev range..
Confirmed, your clutch is stuffed.
If it feels good "DO IT" Unless it harms others.(or upsets the RTA)
Enjoy what you have To Day,cause you can't take it with you.

I recommend going and seeing the clutch factory in kewdale. They were helpful when it came to upgrading my clutch to suit my driving style. And yes, your clutch is f'ed.

Why bother with brand-name TRD clutch, go see a clutch pro, tell them what your driving style is like, how you plan to treat the car, get a new clutch (mine is a heavy duty Daikin with an uprated pressure plate) and enjoy the fact you didn't waste your money on JDM bro.

what did yours set you back? locally i mean..
Yeah don't bother with branded name parts. Locally made stuff are just as good I reckons. My $250 odd 4 puck brass button is still holding up after a year of abuse

im running the exedy HD clutch in my GZE sprinter. its reasonably priced and handles heaps of abuse in a 120rwkw 86. that would be my pick for anyone running the 4ag through its paces, nice light pedal as well.
A heavy duty uprated Hilux clutch might suit your car and should be less exxy than a custom set-up.
