Could be injectors, could be pump, fuel injected is a balance of time and pressure, before you replace your injectors monitor your fuel rail pressure and see if it is holding pressure or starting to dip.
If it holding pressure the njectors are the problem, if it is dipping in pressure would first start with filter replace, recheck it, if it is still suss then looking at most likelyy being the pump.

Sounds like this is one time where a wideband o2 would have been a great thing to have

You should always have your fuel maps sorted before you change the timing.

I would do what jonra23 said though. If the fuel pressure is down, I would also check the fuel filter and the regulator.

OK, I'll see what I can do about testing the fuel pressure.
I might replace the filter as it was on my list of things to do anyway. Though I don't know where it is. Its an ma61 and I've traced the fuel lines back from the fuel rail to the tank, the only place I couldn't see clearly was where the gearbox sits in the transmission tunnel. I would've thought it would be easily visible under the bonnet. Could it have an in-tank filter only?

Will it need retuning after this is resolved...?

your filter will (or should be) close to the engine. mine was between fuel rail and gbox. if you don't have one, perhaps your injectors are clogged?

Sorry this thread has dragged out for so many posts when its probably a simple issue for many of the people on this forum.
Just want to confirm, you'd expect to find the fuel filter in the rubber fuel hose between the metal lines and the fuel rail correct? not further down the system under the car..

Thanks again for the replies fellas.

what fuel are you running??? ... sorry this might be stating the obvious but are you using optimax or equivilent detonation reisistant fuels?? my atmo car will ping on a hot day with crap fuel

check your timing ofset is corect on the ecu b4 you go too much further too .... ie run it up to 5000 rpm with a timing light and check that the ecu and timing light say the same thing

you should ba able to run at least 20 odd degrees with no problems and make a lot mor hp

Looks like the same spot with no filter aye. :/

Might just pick up a random EFI filter and mount somewhere easy access and run the hose as necessary.

Its running on BP Ultimate 98 and the duty cycle seems to be the issue at the moment

See if you can borrow a wideband and a pressure gauge.. I'd lend you mine but it's a bit far away;-)

Duty cycle is a sympton of either not enough fuel pressure or too small injectors, not the actual problem.

    yeh yeh useless info.

eviljack: isn't that the fuel dampener not the fuel filter?

Something to do with keeping the flow consistent not actually filtering it. Some 2jz guys pull this out to maximise the stock fuel systems capabilities.

No filter and running lean is not a good combination, if fuel pressure is up to scratch would probably pay to get injectors cleaned, depending on wether they calc out to be big enough for your forseeable target hp.

Pretty sure Chris is right and that ain't the fuel filter. I am certain the fuel filter on these cars is located close to the fuel tank under/near the diff area.
