Default here's a retarded question (re: power steering fluid)

I just realised today I've never topped up p/s fluid on any of my cars... I've always ended up draining and refilling for various reasons.

Does anything bad happen if I top up with a different brand of p/s fluid? (as I have no idea what's in there at the moment).

I don't want to drain and refill, 'cause I'll be doing that when the p/s cooler goes in.

Just make sure it's the same type of fluid, i.e. don't use ATF if it's not the type recommended for your car. Brands shouldn't matter really.

Hrmm yeah good point, hopefully the previous owners had half a brain and used the right stuff.

I never remember what brand I used last. I just buy recommended rating and chuck it in. It's not failed me yet. You're driving a Toyota, they'll take anything really. Not like a Honduh; the moment you use something other than Honduh branded stuff, they go down the shithole.

shouldn't really be a problem. When I top up mine I just see what type is it for my car and go buy one from Supercheap Auto. Doesn't really matter in the brand but just have to choose the right type for the car ...

I have a classmate (a while ago) topped up with fluid bought from BP and later he bought one from Caltex (the brand is castrol I think) and mixed with the half full of BP fluid inside and make no problem ...

Stick some of whatever you have kicking around in there. If you have bubblebath shortly afterwards, you know you used the wrong stuff;-)
