have you tried searching the US forums? they like there engine swaps over there.

    www.customtacos.com

Although, talking to a lot of wreckers when i was looking around, it is a popular conversion, and apparently easy, but they were not forthcoming about the information.

The information i can tell you though:
Gearbox's are interchangeable with the swap of the extension housing, and the bellhousing.
The engine should pretty much bolt in, you might need to swap around engine mounts, or grind the old ones off and weld the new ones in.
Everything is going to be custom there after. Your going to need a lift pump and pressure pump with surge tank for the carby designed fuel tank. Going to need custom wiring. You can use the same radiator with custom radiator hoses...

Everything is going to be custom there after. Best i can help you with though.

I had another thought if your after a newer torque monster of an engine.

If your looking for bolt in solutions (still need wiring and hoses etc) Then you can look at the 1G or 7M swaps. Both bolt in with very minor mods, and have been documented a fair bit.

    1G-G(T)E 2litre (twin turbo)
    7M-G(T)E 3 Lire (turbo)

Both toyota engines, both fairly popular in the states. Or if you want to cross over to the darkside, plenty of Holden V6 conversions are out on the market.

They probably get a fair few emails each day and only respond to a very few, may find a bit more responsive if you ring a couple, if they dont have anything get them to check on the hotlines to see what other wreckers have got.

wreckers arefine when you ask them specific questions and for specific parts.

They don't have time to waste on you if you want to talk to them about possible conversions. That isn't there business.

I am with Lance, I have never had trouble with a wrecker if i am chasing a part or if i want to go and take some measurements to work out if what i want to do.

I have never turned up asking them to solve my problem for me though.

In my opinoin if you want a reasonable work vehicle on gas(which is what i think you seem to be chasing) I would get the 22r rebuilt for dedicated gas (compression ratios, ignition advance curve, cams etc) and put on a decent flowing exhaust and intake system.

A lot of the advances in later engines has been in the engine management department, which unless you go liquid gas injection you are going to bypass so you weill be paying money for stuff that you are not going to use.

    regards
    jon

Talking Re: 1997 Hilux 22r to 3rz -fe

am thinking bout gas research system what u think?
Aim is not to lose any power on gas.... does anyone know how to achieve this??

    http://www.gasresearch.com.au/

opps just realised dont think they do hiluxes

    damm

I know what ur saying bout wreckers and I agree. Its a bit hard finding info at times though. What im trying to do is run a car on gas that doesnt lack any power through the gas system. Has a little get up and go, reliable and fun to drive. Hate slugginess.

Im also trying to learn as i go as i know very little bout the whole toyota thing. If i ask dumb questions its only cause im trying to learn more

So i apprecite any and all help guys. Thnaks to all who have replied thus far..

Keep it coming Its a great forum!!!!
    cheers

I have done 2 3RZ-FE swaps in to 4WD hilux's which were originaly diesels. Both motors for complete motor with all accessories, wiring, bell housing and ECU were under 2.5K. In regards to bolting the motor in its pretty straight forward except the 3RZ-FE mounts are further back on the frame than the L / 2L / 3L mounts not sure on the 22R though.

Overall I dont think there is a nicer motor for a hilux which is still used as a work truck. Offroad we give these motors and absolute flogging and they just keep asking for more
