Hi there
I have a 1997 hilux manual 22r. Want to convert it to a 3RZ-FE (2.7)auto. Can someone tell me what parts I will need and has anyone done it???
If anyone know where I can get good cheap parts also?????
If anyone knows anywhere in Melbourne also who will do a good job with it please let me know.
Many thanks

anyone??????
there must be someone who knows bout this??
Doesn't sound like anyone has done it on here.
3RZ-FEs are not cheap, looking at wrecked late model hilux for a donor so 4WD wreckers to get one.
Not sure on what parts as haven't done it personaly, but here is a guess.
Obviously motor and trans.
Full engine loom.
ECU
Custom engine mounts, (both being R series may be lucky)
Custom Crossmember.
Shorten/ lengthen tailshaft and fit autos front yoke.
Auto brake pedal from 97 Hilux.
Fit up auto shifter mechanism from donor car or aftermarket.
not a lot of help i guess.
regards
jon
jon you shouldnt need a x member... being that the mounts are on the chasis.
the x member is more of a chassis strengthening item.
everything else seems about right which is alot of work/money giving what extra youll get out of it which isnt a great deal, beter fuel economy maybe haha and marginal power gains for the 3-5k its going to cost you

Thanks BeRad, wasnt sure about crossmember, never seen an auto hilux.
Only hiluxs i have messed with have been 4WD.
Definitely agree on Big $ for the gains, looked into 3RZ-FE for my project, just about to by one for SFA and the article about the dry ice intercooler 3RZ-FE in a 180 came out, instant market for them, dont know if it calmed down since then.

haha, i see the money being well worth it if your going to boost it, but just as a basic engine upgrade i coudlnt warrant spending that much coin for little gain in anything. massive power can be made and has been proven, and is a sought of unique engine to modify im finding this out the hard way haha. so your paying through the nose for everything

No offence meant mgfe.
I got a rude shock when i went looking for a 3RZ-FE conversion cut out, a realy strong base if you want to build a tough late model 4cyl, but a reasonable amount for an extra 0.3 litre over what you have.
Are you going to retain the gas?
regards
jon
no offence taken at all mate!!!
yes im retaining the gas..................thats why im buying it fuel is killin me
the engine has well over 340k;s i think... done a lot of work
thats why i want a fresher one that i can keep for 10 years!!
does that make sense or sound stoopid???
No doesnt sound stupid at all.
Last quote i got for a manual 3RZ-FE, ECU, loom, starter, altenator was about $4k though, that was just after they got a fair bit of publicity, may have gone down a bit since then, wring some 4WD wreckers would be my starting point.
reagrds
jon
well if anyone else knows where and how much feel free to let me know
and thanks jon
