I am a web developer and I don't think that it would be too hard to intergrate an auto-template just for the classified ads!

I think you'll find that vBulletin is a PHP forum.

I've actually un-subscribed from this thread because this issue has been discussed ad-infinitum at board meetings.
We originally wanted the auto template when we started this new forum, but the software doesn't differentiate new threads in different sections, therefore we can't have it yet.

There is a new version coming out, but we'd like to leave that until we change the domain name. Maybe that will allow it.

Until then, please settle on what we've got.
As others have said, it will take a LOT of heavy moderation, & until someone else is allowed to help me moderate the classifieds, I don't have the available spare time to do this.

    Thanks for the input though.

There are ways to make the software do what you want, and it's not that difficult (I have had to do this type of thing to forum software before).

If it is what you want for the forum, I am willing to donate the time to do it...

If you think you can do it, then I'd suggest you get in contact with Mos or Joststix, but they are both extremely busy at the moment.

Thank you for the info, have sent them a PM.

I will keep this thread updated with progress, if it gets the go ahead!

yup should be fairly simple for any PHP programmer

The only problem will arise come update time where the modifications may have to be redone every update (or when the post a new topic code gets changed)

I'm currently having discussions with Mos and when it comes down to it the administrators will have the knowledge to place my code in any future version...

vBulliten code can get pretty interesting when you get in the thick of it, but it does the job real good

I cant see it being any more difficult than fiding out what the forum ID is, if its the forsale ones then put the template into the text area... but that said, VB isnt allways that simple

Ive been finding problems and fixing them after a server migration on fordforums.com.au (my boss runs it haha) which has been nothing short of "interesting"

from previous discussions, i thought the problem was that the forum software, and support from the developers, was paid for... and so any customs changes that were implemented would make support difficult?

but anything to decrease the wookie content is good

any chance of a "i found this on teh intahnet" filter for non-car discussion?

The changes would be very simple. so long as they dont cause problems themselves suport shouldnt be a problem
