Nope, I didn't like it and I sure could do it myself (probably without blowing the head gasket too).

I hope I don't need to explain it, but the reason I don't like such things are:
1 - it attracts unwanted attention
2 - members of the public view this behaviour is dangerous (regardless of whether it is or not) and decreases their view of all car enthusiasts
3- it encourages others to follow suit

Bah enough of the headgasket jokes. Point taken Ben. Told to me directly, I will take. Not backstabbed though. Hence the apologies.

All valid points.. And until we get an autobahn, a Nurburgring or (more realistically) even a simple drift park where enthusiasts can release there pent up motoring tension and learn how to control their car in extreme situations (hard braking, under/oversteer correction) legally, freely or at least cheaply and comparatively safely.. On-street shenanigans are going to continue to happen, and more than likely get worse..

It's not like that sort of behaviour is anything new.. It's just these days the ‘mid life crisis’ performance cars of 20 years ago are the P-plater cars of today. Combine that with inexperienced drivers, an episode of Initial D and a few friends egging them on and you've got a new graphic anti-speeding campaign. If there was somewhere off street these sort of drivers, and genuine car enthusiasts could go and give there cars a real pounding. Just like they do at the Nurburgring, we'd all quickly learn the real limitations of our driving skill and if good enough the limitations of our vehicles too.

I've heard stories, that there is an old air strip in Ballarat where drivers are allowed to go and rip up their tyres away from the general public, and really think this sort of attitude needs to be taken much more seriously in Victoria. The new impound laws introduced have had no effect whatsoever on "Hooning" And in my opinion the only way they are going to reduce on street hooning, is by letting us hoon somewhere else. If they did this, I’d happily accept harsher penalties for on street hooning.

Sigh.. I could rant on.. But ultimately it’s a pointless argument

I generally agree with you kemicalx, and while we are approaching dangerous ground here, what people decide to do when away from the general public in deserted areas is their own choice. More accessible off street racing would be a good move, but even in the absence of this people still have to take resposibility for their actions.

I was just commenting on behaviour in front of a crowd of people (including me) around a bunch of modified cars (including mine). It is in this situation that such behaviour doesn't impress me.

(Poor Yian, having to cop shit from everyone...)

The difference between Yian's actions and the actions of a dickhead "hoon" are that the hoon believes this behavior acceptable by all accounts. Yian, like many of you(myself included), made a snap decision which may not have been the correct choice at the time. Retrospect is a wonderful thing!

On a more postive note, the cccv are in the midst of planning a nice little cruise soon. I would also like to organise a cruise up around the mornington peninsula area finishing at the dromana drive in for a movie night. (I'm sure I could get a deal for the entry price) Some new threads will be up shortly in the vic section.

heh well - i missed the smoke show - though a skid's not as bad as what ive had to deal with from a fellow toyota owner at a previous meet - lets just say , Ma61 brakes are VERY good for stopping head on collissions into dickheads on thr wrong side of the road ..

( oh and ballarat are trying to get a short sprint circuit - havent heard of the old runway though - besides the one they hold the 1/8 drags on each month )

Fair enough - point taken. I didn't think it was that serious though, but I can understand your point. I was just trying to make light of a sticky situation. Yian is a good guy, i'm sure he didn't do anything for one of the above mentioned reasons..

No. I wouldn't organise a meet for fellow Toyota enthusiasts just to attract unwanted attention, give the impression that we are dangerous, or encourage others to follow suit.

I did it for this reason
