ok i was searching for info on what turbo would suit my needs and engine/hp goals and i have found it hard to make sense of a lot of the info thats out there...

i've searched heaps of different turbo info websites and sales pages which give you a whole bunch of numbers that deal with trim, and A/R's and so on...
i wont pretend to understand what difference a different trim on the exhaust wheel will make, so im after some basic advice on what turbo you know will work and give me what i want...

i currently have a built 4age with 8.4:1 compression ratio forged arias pistons, standard bigport gze cams, bigport head, 7 rib block, fully balanced bottom end and reconditioned head, 440cc injectors, microtech and a s14 silvia T28 turbo running 15psi... it made 199hp on the last tune at SAS...

my hp goal is closer to 220-240 depending on how much boost i would need to run...

my current setup is quite laggy and 15 psi is not generated untill close to 5000rpm... the hit in boost response between 4000 and 5000rpm is quite harsh... at anything under 4000 im lucky to see 5psi in any gear..

im not saying that is a bad thing... but i would like to see some more usefull boost below 4000rpm...

im after a new generation ball bearing turbo that will spool up much quicker and still provide me with enough efficiency and flow to get to my power goal... at this point in time i should mention that i would like to limit boost to 20psi max...

is this possible??? can i get that sort of high rpm power and still have a driveable and usefull boost curve?

any info would be greatly appreciated..

p.s... sorry for the noob question LOL...

i have 250hp on 17psi using a gt2871r, makes full boost well before 5grand! turbo is maybe a tiny bit to big but maybe gt2860rs (disco potato) would be perfect? dunno, given the choice id definatly go the gt2871r again but.

    I have 280hp atw @ 17psi.

Silvertop 20V head with std cams.

The turbo I use started off as a silvia non-bb turbo,
and has had the larger GTiR exh wheel fitted and a larger wheel on the front too.

Compression ratio makes a huge difference to lag.
When i changed fro 8:1 to 9:1 I got same boost 1500rpm earlier,
    which is now about 3800.

    GZE ecu with a td05h-16g.

It's as economical as you drive it. Best I've done was approx 400km on approx 30L. That was all highway though. Worst was a whole tank in one trackday.

    Fuel economy? What's that, lol.

My car is race only so will be bad, but 2.4km circuit and about 1L per lap of fuel and 180ml of water injection.

gze ECU. bout 400k's max in hi-way and about 270 - 300 round town. as mentioned above, all depends how much the loud pedal is pushed in, and how often too i spose. no more un economical than the gze was really.

NVD05X: what sort of dump pipe do you have there? I bet I would able to help gain boost quicker with a redesign as there are so very few proper pipes out there

DX20VT: what pistons are you using, sorry if you mentioned it earlier
