    Default 18RGEU fuel pump

    Hi,

I've got an 18RGEU (running carbs though) that I'm about to bring back to life - but was wondering if they can be run with an 18RG mechanical fuel pump - or if I need to get an electric one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.,

    Cheers, Davo.

Hey I couldnt see it being a problem as your using carbies but depending on how good the mechanical fuel pump is mine died on me so i decided to just go out and buy a holley blue fuel pump with pressure reg and it worked fine for memory had the presure reg set to about 6 psi if my memory serves me correctly.

    Cheers Pete

If its a genuine 18RGEU you may well find that you can't mount up a mechanical pump.

There's definitely provision on an 18R-GEU block to mount a mechanical fuel pump, although I don't know if the idler shaft has a cam to actually operate it - can someone with an 18R-GEU confirm?

In any case I strongly recommend getting a low-pressure electric pump, they're not that expensive and far less troublesome.

I haven't opened mine up yet, but have definitely read somewhere that the fuel pump cam is not there on the injected motors. If you seriously want to go mechanical check your motor first.

Thanks very much for the reply guys. I thought I had heard somewhere that the 18RGEU didn't have the cam to operate the mechanical pump, but just wanted to confirm it.

I had no problem at all mounting my 18RG mechanical pump to the 18RGEU block, it just didn't draw any petrol through.

I think I'll take your advice and just go an electric one.

    Cheers, Davo.
