That may be true about the JZ but it's more of a modern engine which could be more efficient then the 5/6/7MGE. Parts are readly avaliable, motors are easier to aquire and finally, fuel efficiency (due to the esculating fuel prices) should offset your justifcation in getting a JZ motor even if its a 1JZGE or 2JZGE.

But keeping to the M series motor, it may be easier to convert and insure it then with a JZ under the bonnet.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong...

    Cheers.

7MGTE might be cheaper in the long run if you get it fixed right initially. Can utilise an M series housing and gearbox.

If you go the 5MGE route let me know how it turns out and if it really is as easy as everyone says

Alrighty, I've got some pics. Firstly the first three show the two plugs that make this wire up job a snap. The rest will give you an idea on what wire are needed to splice into... i still need to draw up a decent diagram so that will come soon. The other thing I forgot to photograph was the fuel pump switch wire up in the afm plug. Basically you take the green and white/black stripe wires from the original body loom and splice them into the new afm plug. There are two wires near the ecu that need splicing if you want your A/C and coolant temp gauge to work also, those i'll draw up later also.

oh yeah, that orange plug is from the fuse box, I just unplugged it to make the splice job easier. It is the the one which you splice the 6 pin connector to. The two pin one you will find two black with red stripe wires in the engine bay.... i think one is power to the old coil, and the other was a single pin circular connector, possibly for the injector resistor pack, my memory has faded.

Any q's, feel free to ask.
    Cheers,
    James

OK Im planning on doing this tomorrow so I need to get a few things clear in my head before I begin. The engine isnt at my house so neither will be the engine conversion, it would be great to have it done in a day if possible.

Will the 5me spigot bearing fit the 5mge ?
The AFM to Fuel pump splice seem easy enough.
Im still unsure on the other plugs. Which of those plugs are from the 5mge loom, which are from the 5me and which are from the body what do they do and what are the colours, (hard to see in the pics).

    Cheers, Tim

Enchanter, you gotta take some more pics for us all if you can. You could go up an easy 100 rep in a day if you did a fully detailed guide!

Yes. In fact most Toyotas use the same spigot bearing.
