Not much I don't think. I've 'helped' with the mechanical sides of a 5mge conversion, and it was bolt on. There was some wiring modification, and the man to ask for that is James (Viper_Nipplex).

    ahh, piece of cake this

Get one mx73 5m-ge, complete with engine loom/ecu/ignitor/afm.... and a couple of plugs ill have to photo.

There is a slight difference in the power steering pressure line, and return, due to the relocation of the p/s reservior.

There is only about 5-7 wires you need to splice into which makes this conversion easy. Make sure you get the intake piping too, the ma61 stuff is of a small diameter. Also the 5m-e afm is not compatible and is smaller too, so piss that shit off immediately. You can still use the standard airbox with the new afm, the bolt pattern is the same, but the air hole you might want to enlarger for the bigger opening on the afm.

when in doubt, swap something off the 5m-e. Many things are interchangable, engine mounts (ditch the little shock absorber ), flywheel/bellhousing, etc. If you need any specific pictures, send me a pm and ill see what i can sort out.

....also buy a new waterpump! the 5m-e one wont fit.... just trust me on this

    Cheers,
    James

Edit: More stuff that I forgot to add.... You will need a different top radiator hose, I think the lower one is ok. The top one will need to be able to form a tight radius 'S' bend, so keep that inmind when shopping. Heatercore hoses should be fine from the ma61... Might need a spigot bearing assuming the 5mge would've been auto and you are going manual. Uhhh... I think that covers most of it. Oh, get a set of extractors to suit a 5mge/6mge/7mge, make sure they clear the steering column! Ecu should bolt into same location as the old one. And for the love of god don't chop any wires.

Edit2.0: I'm terrible. Also the fan shroud (if you have one) will fit fine with the stock clutch fan. I think the 5m-e fan will bolt onto the 5m-ge water pump... as I don't know if the mx73 clutch fan is bigger or not.

I think everything has been said, it should be pretty straight forward. I assume you have the 5m-ge ecu? The 5m-e ecu won't work from memory.

    Depends.

Early 5MGE (like those you might find in early 10 series Soarers) have a similar ECU to a 5ME.
Later 5MGEs have a different ECU and full electronic dizzy (not dissimilar to a 7MGE).

If you get a later 5MGE, just get the 5ME dizzy modified to suit and use the 5ME ECU. Easy as pie.

can u still get 5m-ge's from engine shops u rekon or they to old now? and also is a 6mge harder to fit than a 5mge.

as in the wiring, is it much harder or is it virtually the same?

ive never had to wire up a 6m-ge, but i'd assume the looms are very similar. I have no idea if you could buy a 5m-ge from an engine shop, they are a bit old now... last know use to me was in the mx73 and that ceased production in 1986/87?
