    Default Fixing scratched up rims

I can't delete this thread so I have removed the content.

It is probably too dangerous for most inexperienced people to attempt.

Get rid of that! Do you realise how bloody dangerous that is!
And let me guess you test the spark of a Top Fueler's Magnitos with your tongue!
After seeing what happened to a mate, lucky to be alive after going into a lathe, that is one of the unsafest things i have seen in a long time.

Heh, maybe i shouldnt admit that this is how i polish up the edge of a painted center/polished outer rim

Although a while ago i butchered an old pedestal drill to do the same thing... MUCH safer, until the engine shorted out and filled my garage with black smoke.

    That's Ghetto-fabulous!
Never would have thought of doing this. As long as you make sure that the car is on proper jack stands, and you dont stick your fingers near the spokes of the rim, you should be ok! Oh and maybe use more than 2 of the wheel nuts too

A mate of mine did this years ago on the wheels of his Valiant Charger, he also removed the wheel balance weights because he didn't like the look of them

As kingmick said this has so many possibilities for going terribly wrong and causing injury or worse.

You did get some nice results though ghost.

"always travel with traffic. No no it's against traffic , with traffic, with"

My point is peoples, if you do this at home make sure you are carefull and point your fingers in the direction, in which the wheel is rotating, thus avoiding it to grab....ouch etc.

With a lot of care, this method is the one i used to remove all the clear coating shit from my Corona rims that are on my AE71. Very rewarding results.

    Well done + rep

PS: I will not be held responsible for anyone's injuries incurred through the process of polishing rims or anything that could be directly related to this post. I do not condone the above mentioned as safe work practise, and therefore do not reccomend anyone to attempt this.

This was my thought! As this is a public and moderated forum, if someone has and accident and has seen how to do this from on here, I would imagine it is grounds to sue. I dont think anyone has thought about it. 121 people have seen it now, the more that see it the more chance there is of something happening!

Oh c'mon, as it's a public forum anyone looking can also see everyone responding & saying how dodgy it is!
What is this world coming to when we buckle to the pressure of saving people from themselves. Idiots out there are going to hurt/kill/maim themselves any way, without our help.

I agree with 100% but there are loads of young 17 year olds that would be lucky to work out which end of the screw driver to use! hahahaha
If no one saves them they still be trying to undo the screw two years later

    put the content back dammit
    We want darwinian evolution.

Seriously, 99% of things involving cars have a chance to be dangerous, but we still post about things like attaching a breaker bar to the cranky pulley bolt, various ways of mucking around with electrics... hell, dropping a gbox is one of the things most likely to result in injury (that, or anything in the engine bay related to a spanner will end in skinned knuckes)
