Default Help with FE cams removal

Taking the cams out of the V6, ive encountered a problem.

In order to remove them without damage, you must rotate them until the marks on the main scissor gears line up, and then put a service bolt through the main and sub gears to stop there torsional force when removing them.

Ive got the rear bank cams out without a problem. However, when doing the front bank, after i lined up the marks on the main gears, the service bolt hole doesn't line up exactly. It's about 1/2 a hole width out, so i can see through, but a bolt wouldn't engage. The teeth on the gears themselves is perfectly aligned, so i'm wondering what exactly to do?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt.

Sounds like the sub gear and main gear are 1 tooth out of sync, have the cams been out before?

No great ideas on how to fix it until the two cam scissor gears are not meshed.

maybe just remove the cam and align it after you have it out. like mentioned it was probably missaligned by someone previously.

i don't understand because i have never played with this sort of thing, but can't you just put a thin rod through the hole instead?

Yeah this is what i thought. I havn't taken the cams out of this motor before my self, as it's one i sourced from a wrecker.

I didn't want to remove it without bracing the gears with a bolt or similar, because the manual states that it may cause head damage when the tension of the gears are loose.

Well what you suggested was what i was going to do..thankyou for the clafification

I guess theres no way to realign the sub and main gear without having the cam out...so a pin it going to be the only option.

    Thanks to all
