The tranny I took pictures for you has a cast steel main casing I assume thats what you mean by the casing. Not the extension housing. just asking because I know that at least one of the three spare boxes I have are steel case and I will have to get underneath the old Rt132 corona and the Ra28 donor car to check that one.The RT132 has an import 18rgu and gearbox, thats what got me thinking.
I was hoping that there would be some casting numbers that would easily identify them as Toyota love putting numbers on everything.
Just to diverse a little River does your RA25 have the ESP bit in the centre console?
all w40's and w50's are steel case.![]()
beer me!
Best way to find out as I found out quite a few years ago when I had a Twin Cam powered RT104 Corona with P51 was take the filler plug out and shine a torch in there and see if it has brass synchros or cast.If cast you have P51 if brass its just your standard W series box.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Brett.
they have cast syncros?
They sure do.
Cheers Brett.
The P51 is only worth a lot to people like River or Lambolica, they're a waste of money to the rest of us.
BUT
The F series diff (if it has discs) would be popular to many classic celica owners because of its width and strength.
I say go buy both, store the P51 tranny or chuck it on ebay and use the diff/sell it on here.

I was looking at a P51 box today in an old celica book and in the specs page I found a difference between the w50 and P51, there is a ridge/fin in the casting on top of the houseing that the shifter is in, the w50 is smooth/flat, no ridge at all
I was also comparing it to the box I was looking at which is meant to to be a P51, I also checked inside the oil filler and there was no sign of brass
Hi,
Got pics/scan of this so we can see? It'd be excellent to have this info in this thread.

I'll have mail it to you, as I'm a spaz at putting pics up, I dont know how
The difference in the ridge may also be from different years Castings, So Far the best way I have heard ( but not yet tried ) is the removal if the filler plug and checking synchros.
Merc-Blue... You will sell both of them to me....
FYI - they are Drum brake rears on the Diff.
Beige.... The new Black!!!
P.S. If you get any other parts off and RA35, you sell these to me also....
