Go the Toyota auto for sure, all you have to do is get the tailshaft modified to suit which is no drama at all.
Forget the Falcon autos, they're rotten things. Use the A340 (Toyota box), it's pretty easy to make it fit in there.
Plus, Dell-housings are of about the same quality as the Falcon autos![]()

How does the shifter line up though? does the shifter line up into the original position? or is it foward or rear ward in comparison?
Any reason why your heart is set on the turbo six?
You chasing a power figure, driveability, reliability?
For the budget you posted, you will get away with a 2JZGE conversion (non turbo) and you will only require an engine package, not a whole halfcut. These can be had for as little as $1200 for motor, ecu, ignitor and loom.
As said above, lift your budget constraints if you want to go turbo.
Out of curiosity, whats an EA weigh? (2JZGE in MA61 supra 1350kg is an awesome combo)

Shifter is easy to make work just alter the rod to suit.
The EA fairmont which is what this is weighs around 1500kilos from memory could be wrong. Its certainly not light. I would like a turbo 6, but then again 2j non turbo sounds interesting as well. A 2j would be alot better than a falcon 6 of any sort even if it produces similar power and would be much much better on fuel you would think. 3litre vs 4litre.
well you obviously dont know much about ford gearboxes then! the C4 is very strong and reliable and also a fair bit smaller than an A340. Do some research and you will find a lot of the quick rotors use the C4 and they never have any trouble with them. Try talking to any gearbox shop about an a340? (except MV automatics)
I know the C4 has been used for many things, as has the T400, the 'Glide, and, heaven forbid, the Traumatic - but, for a standard box and a standard engine conversion, it would be far from a great choice. Besides, the 340 is almost given away if you buy an engine, and it'd be cheaper to adapt the tailshaft than to buy something from Dellow.
Your right unfortunately i dont know a great deal. I do know that the few 3 speeds i have been in, this one, and 2 fairlanes had very ordinary shift quality. But im also not looking at strip work, i would like to use this as a daily drive where budget permits and also to tow the occasional boat or trailer.
the gearbox may be given away but what about the computer you need to run it??
That would generally be apart of the halfcut / engine package.Originally Posted by Pube

That's already there in order to run the engine...Originally Posted by Pube
Also, a 1JZ doesn't really like working in a Falcon rev range.
If you kept the 3 speed, you'd either have a rotten pig to drive by keeping the original diff gears, or something that tended to rev a bit much on cruising when you change the diff gears to better suit the engine.
ANYWAY.....i guess its not my project and was only offering a suggestion
No no ideas are good, the more the better means that when it comes time for the start of the project i have a better research base to work from. Im new to this type of conversion
Have a look at this site. There are a couple of Falcons with 1uz fitted. Might give you some idea as the auto trans are the same as 1jz/2jz engines. Also similar wiring.
Why not just put a 1uz in it. Very nice engine.
