Yea thats wat im thinking about doing is putting a dunnidore diff in the celica i got an great diff guy that does quite a bit of work for some of the v8 supercars teams and he is going to shorten the diff and reweld all the mounts and and a fresh diff lsd mind you for a grand total for under a grand sounds pretty good to me plus there is a heap of different ratios that you can get for them and finding another dunnidore is easy as

Hmm... perhaps you should find out if you can get him to do all that to an F series?? Then you dont have to worry about finding another cause its highly unlikely you will break it/wear it out

They have a plethora of ratios available, and torsen LSD is easy to come by. Then you dont have to worry about the crappy shims and rear-loading centre etc. Much easier to change centre bearings

I'm gonna dredge this up, but I was quoted $1.9k for a new ford 9inch lsd ready to go to any size I want and any stud I want.

Would this be cheaper and easier than any other options?

It's cheap concidering someone else is doing it, a little on the overkill side but cheap all the same.

I'm hoping to get an Fseries LSD into mine for less than $1500 but I'll be doing alot of the work myself.

    heya,

my volvo diff conversion cost me $600 and a fair bit of time with the tape measure figuring out the conversion.

that is no lsd ( has a locked centre) andi already had adjustable upper control arms. that did include changing the stud pattern to 5x114.3.

    Cheers

So far my RN2x diff has cost me $700. That includes the diff, Torsen centre with 4.1:1 ratio, and MA70 rear brakes. I need to get the caliper mounts, all brake lines, brake overhaul kit, pads, shoes machine disks and drums etc etc, but the whole thing should come in at about a grand if I swap the mounts over myself.

Owen, you seem to be a wealth of knowledge when it comes to diffs, assuming I use an F serries dif, what modifications (other than the mounting bracket swap) will be required to fit rear discs?
    real axles/rear Discs off a ST141 (Avante)/RT142
Was mentioned as the set up, but what is involved to have the calipers fitted? Is this all that is required to complete the conversion?

Again sorry, I had all this info saved but now I've lost most of it.

All the info is in the tech section, and has been discussed in length.

From the ST141/RT142 you will need: disks, backing plates, callipers, and the bearing retainer plate which you will need to remove the axle bearings to remove, and handbrake cables. You will need new axle bearings (kit available from any bearing/automotive shope) for when you change over the bearing retainer plates, which will need to be done by a workshop with a press.

The backing plate has the calliper mounts on it, you will most likely need new fixed brake lines (may get away with shortening the existing ones), and when you change over the mounts, you will need to move the lower shock mounts toward the centre a little ways. Also you will probably need the wheel studs, as they should be longer.

Do a thorough search of the tech, as there are a few people who have come across ways to fix the problems with the handbrake cable lengths and the shock mounts etc.
