    Default Searching the Old forums

Is it possible to be able to link the search button to be able to search the old forums as well?

Failing that I assume that the old forums will be locked but still viewable, if so an FAQ at the top of the Tech and conversions and maybe a link or somthing on the search tab to take you to the old forums search pages for searching?

And some kind of guide line for digging up old threads from the old forums like either corrolating the relevant information from the old thread in to 1 post, before asking a further question. or linking to the old forums in the first post?

There will be a transition period where there will be very little information held within these forums and I guess the ultimate goal is to have 1 forum full of information rather than linking back over previous versions. My worry is that if someone posts the inevitable can a 1G fit in an RA28 type question that even in the new forums the more Senior users will still drop in with their "do a search" response meaning they will go off, search get confused by the old search software and not bother, meaning that all that wealth of information in the old forum doesn't get to these ones.

What I am sugjesting is formalising a system of when an question is asked the more senior members who know the forums well can still drop in their "do a search" quick response cut and paste. but maybe also be encouraged to pull the relivant information onto the new forums so it is done on a need to know basis. At the same time have descriptive FAQ on how to search the old forums, Cut and pasting the relevant information to the new forums before asking an appended question. Somthing like this as an example:-

    Initial Question

well i searched through all the information i could find on here, but couldnt find anything completely specific to what im after.
if cost wasnt a factor: what would create more power/speed on a 3tgte, a rebuilt, high flowed ct20? or a good condition standard ct26?

if i overlooked a thread, if someone could direct me to it thatd be great.

from what i read, the ct20 is a bit of a garbage turbo, but does a highflow bring it in to the territory of the ct26?
    cheers
    Relevant responses

    CT20 from a hilux?

A CT26 Twin entry. would be cheaper and alot easier to highflow and rebuild.

I brought a CT20B off a 1993 GRP A 205 and is the biggest waste of money ever. It's hard for places to rebuild the turbo due to the fact its all mixed in and match there's no off the shelf parts for it and to rebuild to oem specs. will cost more then having a CT26 highflowed.
A CT20 HiFlowed to the maximum will never flow as much as a standard CT26 , Your best option is a single entry CT26 off a ST165 or a 7MGTE as these have steel wheels compared to the CT26 twin entry which has ceramic wheels and are only safe to about 15lbs , also the single entry are a lot cheaper to get rebuilt and HiFlowed, When rebuilding the twin entry a new steel rear wheel and shaft will need to be fitted because the shaft nearly always breaks when it is disassembled , The ST165 CT26 will give good early boost on the 3TGTE and hold around 16 - 20 lbs , The 7MGTE CT26 will come on boost a little latter but should hold 25 - 30 lbs, The ST165 has a 40 mm comp wheel and the 7MGTE has a 47 mm wheel both rear wheels are the same size but the rear housing on the 7MGTE turbo is larger which allows better exhaust flow at higher revs but will give a little more lag , I am using a single entry CT26 with 7MGTE rear housing and HiFlowed comp with 50 mm wheel , This is on my 3SGTE and will hold 30lbs .
    Appended Question

Where can I get a CT26 cause i wantz to put it on my 4-ac to do full sik skids. (you get the idea)

google is your friend for searching the old forums.... and here's how....

say you want to search for hilux diff information..... go to what should ALWAYS be your first port of call.... http://www.google.com.au

    In the search box...
    Code:
    hilux diff site:forums.toymods.org.au
....or whatever the url of the old forums will be when they are moved...

Give that one a go! You'll wet yourself over just how much info google pulls up!!!

Yeah that is what I do at the moment, but I'm pretty sure only about 5% of forum members know this.

That is what I was getting at with an FAQ was encoding that search to the website.

it is possible i guess?? I mean you can incorporate a google search bar into just about ANY website, so what's to stop you changing the code a little to only search the URL of the old forums?? [the techies will answer this one properly]

In my mind anyway, i would like to see a LOT of guides, information, and top shelf threads re-written and improved.
For instance im starting to write up complete conversion guides for the conversions i have done, since everywhere i look i find conflicting information, partial guides, missing chunks etc etc. Just reading a full-on-everything included conversion guide should answer sooo many questions about soo many other topics that it will hopefully help people pic up the skills faster, and without needing to be spoon-fed.

For instance - i learnt HEAPS about what to do in a FWD conversion by reading a guide a mate of mine wrote. I never asked him a single question unless after reading his guide and anything else i could find on the internet i still remained stumped.

There is just so many simple questions that can be answered with a couple of pics

I would also like to see a few "basic" tech articles. EG - pictures of different things, pointing out what bits do and how they all work.
