    Default Smoke Vent

    Hi there

Can anybody tell me what the little vent is for next to the ashtray in this Cressida?

I've googled like crazy but can't find an answer.

    Thanks

My soarer has a small vent like that on the dash which actually has behind it the temp sensor for the climate control (least that's what I've been told)

    180sx have them

I believe it is for the climate in cabin sensor. But do the older cressidas even have an electric climate control? It could also be for a small speaker that sounds lights on or doors open or something but the climate answer seems more viable.

    Plot viscosity rises furthurmore.

Climate control , it senses the temp of the cabin and controls the computer to put out hotter/cooler air

pretty much anything 1985+ has one

But the first 2 pics dont have climate control 'controls' they just have the standard heater dials.

dont climate control models have actual degree markings for temperature?

They have the "vent" thing still because there was an option at some stage with climate control for that vehicle. My car's old controls had the vent, but no thermo sensor. The new one i got has it.

good point...why make 2 separate mouldings...

in my car it isnt near the ashtray, its actually on top of the dash near the demister vent....

Mazada 323's never had climate control even as an option though?

Anyway, apparently they are vents to stop heat from gathering under the dash when you have the heater on the 'feet' setting. It allows heat to escape and not damage any components behind the dash.

That's all very good and well but not every car has these vents and others are in positions where they would be useless for this purpose.....
