    Default 7MGTE won't start after conversion - FIXED!!!

    Wired up a 7MGTE into a GA61 Celica XX, and I am not getting any spark, not getting any injector pulse.

    Everything I've tested has 12v, has earth, everything on these pages (and the next 2) that can be tested, has been tested.
    There were all within spec except for IGT-E1, which I got 0 volts for.


    Anyone got an ideas?

    I've tried it with a spare ecu, and a spare ignitor.
    I've made sure the CAS signals were getting to the ecu.

    The CEL won't light up, so I can't check for codes.

    got a good earth from engine to chassis.

    i mention cause someone else had similar problem with no spark (or dying out) and that was the cause.

    haha have you been helping damo finally get some grunt into his beastie?

    coil pack is a really weak spot in these engines... have u tested that?

    That doesn't explain why I'm not getting any injector pulse though.

    It will be a really simple problem, its just something I'm overlooking.

    damn ... it needs IGT to do the coil select.

    does the tacho register anything when cranking the engine?

    Its more the lack of injector pulse that has me worried at the moment.
    After I get that I'll start chasing down the spark (if its doesn't fix at the same time).

    As for the tacho no, its an autometer so it doesn't work while cranking.

    Have you checked continuity between the injector plug and the ECU pin??
    I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.

    Check that when you pulse the injectors to ground that they actually fire. I had a weird one with a conversion a few years ago, all the injectors were stuck closed. Spent ages wondering why i wanst getting any fuel in, and all the wiring was fine.
    To test the injectors just use an aligator clip from 12v+ and then short the other pin to ground briefly.

    E0 will probably have something to do with the coilpacks too.

    maybe i should have suggested why checking for tacho signal - if there's no tacho output from the ingiter, then there's no timing signal (from teh 24 tooth wheel) being processed by the ECU and sent to the ECU (or the igniter is dead).

    no engine speed signal (which is what the 24 tooth wheel provides) means no injector triggers.

    By checking for +12v at the ecu end of the injector wires you verify that at least 3 of the injectors are wired correctly.

    ECU isn't firing the injectors (not ecu is firing injectors but injectors aren't injecting), so no point in me testing the injectors themselves yet.

    Yes, I know why Chuck, but I have no way of checking for a tacho output with the equipment I have at home (I am assuming the autometer does not work when cranking, either way it sits on zero)
    CPS pulses are getting back to the ecu, but the ecu is not firing the injectors or telling the ignitor to fire the coils.

    I've tested it with a spare ignitor and a spare ecu, no different.

    Problem has to be in the wiring.

    I'll go through tomorrow night and recheck all the pins for +12v while the key is in START.
    No doubt I'll find something that doesn't have voltage.

    Peewee - Injectors will not fire if a valid IGf signal is not present.
    The ECU first fires the coils, waits to see if the coil fired (via IGf), and then fires the injectors. (You can immobilise an engine by disconnecting the IGf pin.) So you have to get your spark first, then chase fuel.

    Do you have a scope? How did you check the CAS?

    How does the IGT, IGDA, IGDB work? Is IGT the firing signal and the IGDA and IGDB the coil select lines? Trying to understand the 0.7-1v, and 1-3V. I'm guessing the voltage is the average result due to the pulses from the ecu to the ignitor, so 0 v on IGT would mean the pulses are not being generated - but then it would seem strange to have IGDA and IGDB pulses if the ecu isn't happy to generate IGT?... It could be that the output device for IGT is blown.. (Most of this is guesses, so I could be completely off).

    (takai - that's exactly what happened to stitt's 7M-GE... ended up repinning the entire loom to run an ecu, ignitor and afm from a known working engine, before starting to look for other problems - the injectors where stuck shut and the dissy was two teeth out...)

    was going to suggest your ignition barrel... could be a signal thing somewhere assuming u're using a 1G's ignition system and it's not compatible with the 7M.. not too sure but i could be wrong.. have heard of a few issues with key ignitions but not sure if this applies..
