BEVANI: I'm going to enjoy fixing it up. Got 4 new tyres on it today plus the rack ends were shot so new rack ends put in. Goes where you point it now. The head gasket is buggered and I was watching the temperature gauge going up on it today while going to get the tyres. When I looked up all cars in front of me had stopped. I hit the brakes and it pulled up without fuss. Beautiful. The brakes are good !!!!! Needs bodywork and the interior in places needs some TLC. It shall be done.

Patrick: Funny you should mention that. While searching for information on the 5m-e the other day I came across one in the US with an Eaton strapped on.

I've always wanted to supercharge something but the closest I've got is being outbid on ebay for a SC14 a while back. Was going to put it on my Corona 22re. Some see it as waste of money and I understand where they're coming from, but, you know, it's my money and I'll waste it however I like.

    Cheers men.

    Now is your chance!

And that is crazy, that is exactly the image I had in my head of what it would look like. You know you have to do it now right? You're already doing the head, might as well put a good proper gasket on it and then go one step further!

5ME? Did someone say go further? ..

5M-EU bored out to 3100cc using Mazda piston, Nissan L-series valves, 7M-GTE crank. Triple Solex carbs, bespoke exhaust manifold. Most parts one-off for this engine, far cooler than a simple and far more popular 1JZ conversion. Car is MS105 Toyota Crown.
I always liked 5MEs because they are the ultimate POS in such a cool car, the MA61. I would also love to have an excuse to supercharge/turbocharge one for the sake of it lol.

    FWIW
    - the 4M-EU in American Celica-Supra MK1's are very similiar, but not many people posting about them on CelicaSupra.com either. Might be useful for you if you can find diagrams etc online...
    - an M-TEU engine is very very very similiar to the 5M-E, it's had a history of its parts being used on 4M and 5M's to give a bit of boost without fuss They are commonly found on pov-spec imported Z10 Soarer's but good luck finding one wrecking lol. There was one okay Soarer in Sydney still running fine M-TEU (I drove it) and 169,000KM on clock. I think its still existing in Sydney somewhere if you wanted it...
    - Not many 5M-GE's are around so keep that in mind when you are thinking of droppin somethin in later. Sure they are better than the 5M-E and good to chuck in, but unless youre buying a whole car that comes with the 5M-GE (like a late MS123 Crown or MX73 Cressy) youre not gonna find one. I couldnt find one at all, nor a 6MGE. So when my 5M-GEU (Soarer) was completely dead I just found the next cheapest engine that would go in.

I've got to stop reading these things

Thanks for all the info ivandude and that motor must look as good on the inside as it does on the out.

I'm not going to rush into things, or at least, that's the plan.

It sure looks good, and, tidy <--- THAT'S THE WORD. Got to tidy mine up by removing the removable. The 5m-e is a mess.

They sure have. I got in contact with GA61XX who has removed the removable from the 5m-e before and has been a great help. 3 hoses is all you need, or in my case, 2 as I don't have cruise control. I started pulling apart mine this morning and found it has a Hiclone thing in the air filter system and also a Fuelstar thing on the fuel line. These items alledgedly improve fuel mileage by up to 20%. Hate to think how terrible my fuel economy would be without them Did find though that the normal fuel filter looks like the original and 4 of the injectors are leaking rather badly. Good news is the fuel injectors are the same as in a 22re and I've got plenty of them in good nick lying around. What's gone from being a head change is turning into a topend makeover so to speak. Ah well.

    Individual Throttle Bodies

It's like one cute little carby per cylinder with a trumpet on the top for air intake

Men. To put this head gasket on the repair manual I have says "Apply RTV-type gasket sealant" to both sides of the gasket at certain points.

I have the permatex red stuff but I'm a bit reluctant to put that on the head gasket and am not even sure it's the right stuff. I do have permatex aviation no 3 which I used on my 22re and am hoping it's suitable as it's great stuff. Not an oil leak in sight on that motor. Didn't use it to seal certain points of the head gasket though.

Question is: What's the best to or should I use ?

    Normally that's what I'd do, but .........

    Attachment 16332

........ although the repair manual I have does say to take off the fan and water pump to remove the head, which I didn't have to do.

Also, how do you insert an image instead of just a link to the image ?
