    Default TA22 rear swaybars.......

Is it worth fitting a rear swaybar to my TA22?

What does it do to the back end besides perhaps make it ride flatter.......does it help it to grip better?

I've never had a rear one on a TA22 so your advice would be appreciated as I've read on here that some track cars leave it disconnected.

i use 1 on my 45 celica .but its a std factory item ,about 12mm thick thats it .you can get them from a ae86 or late ke70 seriea corolla to fit the 22
helps better if you have a factory lsd thou

    Brian,

I have a sway bar for a TE71 Corolla in the rear of my TA22.

The LSD I fitted was however much more effective.

My experience with TA22 chassis is 40mm lowered springs allround then to tighten up the front end suspension with heavy duty inserts plus strut brace and run adjustable dampers at the rear on their softest setting.

    Thanks guys!

I forgot to say that I will be fitting a LSD but I am waiting until I get the right ratio diff.....my pal has a box full of T series diffs and a few slipper units but I have yet to sort through them to find the one I need. (320 miles away)

If I did fit a rear swaybar would it be better to fit a bigger one to the front to help compensate?

My suspension is all urethane and I have TRD inserts in to XT130 struts with Celica top mounts. The rear is Bilsteins with lowered and harder springs from my pals rallying Corolla. The car handles really well for a road car.

Depends what you want to do with the car. A street car probably doesn't need one. A car that sees the track does, in my opinion, especially if its a NA motor. If you size it (swaybar) right, u can keep the shock & spring rate on the softer side to soak up the bumps nicer, and leave the anti-roll up to the sway bar.

I used to run one on my car and found better traction with it off (open diff). Firm up the front and leave a relatively soft setting for the rear and you should be ok. Like everyone has said an lsd is the way to go and that's the way you seem to be going.

    Thanks again guys.........appreciated.

I will get an Lsd this year....the front is already stiff and the geometry seems right because it is stable at speed (castor) and goes where you point it.......and the rear Is a little softer already.
Seems like I'm heading in the right direction!
    Cheers!

i have same opinion, rear is no needed.. upgrade front near 1" and good shocks, if needed, play with different rear spring rates... (unless going to drfit) so thats the way to go with grip.

with rollgages everything change, Celica chassis is so weak... stiff sway bars with chassis torsion, you can feel how the chassis is flexing all around, its not rare to see A and C pilar cracking... with stiff swaybars.

Thank you.....appreciated. I think I will just fit an LSD. I never used a rear sway bar when I rallied but things have progressed since those days!
At some point I will upgrade the front swaybar but I have to say the front end is very good suspension wise and geometry..it goes where you point it.

brian are you using nolathane in the rear trailing arms at all ,as this tends to lock the rear end up from moving in its arc
i use std rubber bushes in the back ,and it handle so much better on the track ,rose joints hammer out to quick

Yes I am using polybushes in the trailing arms, shocker eyes and panhard rod.......and I do have a kind of knock at the nearside rear. I thought it was the exhaust knocking but there is no impact signs and I am starting to believe that the bushes are binding in the eyes.......you might just have confirmed it.
    Something to check out.
