The fastest time I have done 1.06 dead was on jumbos, I thought they were a great tyre, I only paid $230 each from memory from st George when they had them. R888 from st George were 260 I think. There are a lot of people that don't like the r888, I have a set that have done 7 track days and still have one or two left. Falkens same deal, lots of days but not that quick.
When you consider there is no timing at these days and it just for giggles, a tyre that takes the heat and punishment is better than something that will only last a day but is a sec quicker.
And about the nazi thing, how does Get yourself f....... Sound. Anyone who knows me, and there are more than just a few here, would know that I don't roll that way. on your advice Garth would have been out of pocket about about $50 a corner.
I think, (I am home now, and racing all weekend) those 195/50r15 in federals would be a little over $100 each. I can organize for you to pick up at Smithfield.

Forgive my stupidity, but what are they?

I used to have KU36's and they were awesome but once they hit 50% they went to shit

Rsr federal. I don't rate it for a road tyre in the wet, but hard wearing at a reasonable price

yep exactly the same size as you.

my set are hards, and made even harder since they are about 6 years old being former lotus cup tyres, I have 2 hard/med (rare compound) waiting to go on as well.

despite their age, being second hand, and of unknown prior heat cycle condition I still knocked about 3 seconds off my time with them straight off the bat (compared to Toyo Proxes 4)

Went looking at the Federal site for the FZs, seems like the 202s are the more serious track tyre from their marketing, so maybe just a softer compound? The 201s they say are for "road and race performance" whereas the 202 is "a genuine competition tyre", so i'd expect a price difference to suit. Annoyingly, it's the usual sizing frustrations, with 201s coming in a variety of 17's and 18's, plus a couple of 15 and 13 - though from what i hear what's actually available here is more limited than that. Federal only list ONE SIZE for the 202s, a 17".

So Federal (supposedly) say they'll look at bringing in more sizes when they get some decent sales volume out of our (relatively tiny) market, but i don't really see how that will happen until they make a good selection of sizes available??

Yeah I can't see it happening either - how do you build your sales base without a saleable product? We get stiffed with Toyo over here as well, R1R's are only sold in limited sizes, yet the States get the full compliment. That's the only reason i've got KU36's on the rear, cause I couldn't get R1R in 255/40/17

I never would've considered buying tyres from overseas, just not the sort of product i'd look to import - but knowing a tyre i want is available in my size but the local distributor won't bring it in, why not?? Especially as it's usually cheaper to boot. Sure there's the ADR/import approved/legal side of things, but my car spends very little time on the road, often that's just to protect the distributor from grey imports and when was the last time you saw a cop check the tyre for anything other than tread depth and maybe sizing??

DOT legal = road legal here
Nobody makes tyres to meet "Australian standards" (why the fuck would they, the Australian market is 3/5's of fuck all in terms of tyres......... whole country is smaller than cities in the US) which is the usual bullshit the importers and compliance workshops say.

    DOT
    E3
    JIS
= All accepted as road legal here, pretty sure its in the ADR's

Tirerack.com for us stuff, heard about 40 per tyre freight. In some sizes you can save a fortune

Not any more, the distributors in the US cracked it and exports have been canned bar for a few brands that you wouldnt buy anyway
