spend some time with search and have a look for jamies ta22 with 1uz and GTR running gear. very possible. ALOT of work.
Hey all,
This is my first post So I hope you can help a newbie by sharing your experience and knowledge.
I am thinking of taking a TA22 and putting the GT4 running gear in it. I was thinking a 3S engine using the GT4 box obviously. I haven't heard of or seen it done before, which of course doesn't mean it hasn't.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Turning a RWD into a 4WD, or fitting a 3S into a TA22?
If not, I'll let y'all know when I'm done
Thanks,
Andrew

Umm maybe you could start with a chassis type 4wd setup with twin wishbone front end that could be changed to tubing to save weight put in the latest 4.8 liter twin cam six from toyota then bolt on a modded TA shell on top with big bonnet scoop
Alloy 10.5 inch landcruiser rear diff and 8 inch front.
thanks guys, I'm very keen to make it happen, I had a TA22 when i was younger and sold it, very sad but it's visible on the google street view out the front of my house![]()

start with a chat to a GOOD engineer.
you will probably have to engineer it as an ICV (in NSW), given that the drive wheels have changed, and will need serious modifications to the front chassis rails.
you could rebody a hilux or similar with the TA body, but that is a headache in it's own right.
are you experienced in extensive modding or new to the game? hopefully you realise this is definitely not a bolt-in job(pretty much the complete opposite..)

relatively newI've never dOne anything major like this. The idea of 4 wheel grip really grabs me. It does however seem more and more intense. But oh so worth it. 2 confessions I've been driving subarus recently the second is that I really found their AWD unbeaten for grip and handling on tar and dirt.
Are there any companies you could recommend for consulting on ICV's? Someone who could say yes or no at a design stage? Or guide the design towards a yes before it gets too involved?

err, the guy at Consulmotive (john?) comes to mind, but really you could look up any of the engineers listed on the RMS/RTA website and call up for a chat.
they will either give you some advice, or won7t want to spend time on the phone, but either way, phone calls are cheap![]()

Got at least $20K to throw at it? If not, forget it...and that's still with a lot of DIY

Hi,
Agreed with Justy babes.
Considering you can easily throw $40k at upgrading and modding an old Celica, while keeping it RWD.... to do an AWD conversion would be a lot more expensive.

take GT4 celica Cut entire body of floor pan and sub frame shorten to suit TA22 body weld on a cage Drop TA22 body over the top Jobs done
cheers guys, I was thinking $50k for the better part of a decade, not in a hurry, but I still wanna get it right from the start. Zammo you think it's possible to weld a cage into a TA22 for road rego without anyone noticing lol?
but I am serious about the cash and timeframe, ICV (as oldcorollas said in NSW) seems the only way it will get regobut at the end of the day I wanna keep it all celica yet end up with something TRD would be proud of
yet keeping RWD isn't at all bad, in fact maybe even better. thanks heaps for all your input so far everyone

Well 50k seems a good budget if theres plenty your capable of on your own
ICV it be the easiest way i think, with a custom box/tube frame chassis incoprorating all the running gear for your TA22 to fit over if you done this you may also be able to incorporate a TAC approved cage talk to some HOT RODDERS they do this all the time. Your budget should cover the build up to the point of driveability and it would be a sweet ride..........................
BUUUUUT
you can buy A LOT of car for 50k
For $50K i can hand deliver you an engineered, street legal twin turbo V8 GT4, along with enough spares to fill whatever space you have left in your garage![]()
