clutch accumulator apparently, maybe grab one from a wreckers?
hey all,
the latest thing to go wrong on my corona was the slave cylinder started leaking lots as opposed to leaking not so much, had been topping up the fluid every time the clutch needs "pumping up" but have just replaced the master and slave cylinders. hopefully the clutch fluid wet patch will dry up now.
anyway there was this odd component bolted to the firewall (pictured below) that had a short length of hard line going from the master cylinder to the bottom of it, then another section of hard line coming out the top and going down to the flexi line and slave cylinder.
now just for fun i managed to cross thread the shit out of the female thread in this thing, which required hand bending the long hard line to route it into the master cylinder outlet.
I have just driven it back and forth in the driveway a bit and it feels a bit weird, need to take it for a proper drive i guess, but just wondering if anyone knows what it is? have done some searching, nothing on here, my hilux manual doesn't mention it, i can only assume it's a blanked hill start valve, a pressure reducing valve or some other kind of thing.
if the car drives considerably worse than usual i guess i'll replace it or try to fix the thread, then i'll have to re bend the line back to where it was before, so hoping i don't have to.
cheers!

cheers mate, did some digging and it seems it's a damper of some kind, there is a piston which pushes on a rubber block to make the clutch feel spongier (or less harsh or something). I'll post up what i've managed to find out from another forum that is down at the moment, when it is back up. i've driven it a bit and it seems fine, just lowered the friction point a bit too.

Usually they are a sort of 'dampener', to slow engagement and disengagement by a fraction, usually to protect the driveline, or from a manufacturer perspective, to 'refine' clutch operation. I could be completely wrong however, i know this is the case on the V6TT mitsubishi galant / legnum.

Correct, All diesel Hliux Surfs have them. They're a mechanical booster for the clutch as to lighten the load on your foot where a heavy duty clutch is fitted as standard. Space saving device so you don't need a vacuum operated clutch master as per a Nissan Patrol. A cheat around this is to use an HZJ75 Clutch master as this part is integral with the master cyl but it does take some stuffing around to fit or just get one off a 4runner or Surf and hide it anywhere you want

apparently having a damper makes the pickup point "higher", i prefer it "lower" so if i can't adjust the pushrod enough (its pretty much as high as it will go now) i'll just have to get used to it.
