hmmm, wasn't 17.5, i logged it for a year i think the average was about 14-15, was rare to get over 400km between fills. Was that 11-12 on an aftermarket ECU Andrew?
stock head bolt yield point is somewhere around 90-95ft/lb, so you are nowhere near there when the head is torqued up. seriously, ive never replaced them and not once has it been a problem -plenty of them are still running fine today. obviously you go through them first and check for stretch, rust etc and clean or ideally chase the threads in the block.
at $100-150 ARPs add another 50% to the cost of the job, and are really not necessary unless its boosted or highly strung NA in my opinion.
edit: 17-20lt/100km is not unusual for either an old or a modified 7m if its being driven hard. driven lightly should see much better results. the fresh stock motor in my daily constantly stayed between 11.0-11.9lt/100km the entire time it was on petrol which was awesome.
lpg is still win, now it does 12.5 on the highway and 15-17 around town @ 50c/lt with more power and no rev limit![]()

nope stock ecu, exhaust, intake, afm, auto etc. fresh motor with a bit of comp and timing tuned by ear. i did the numbers every fill and it never once actually got to 12.xx most times it was 11.5-11.9

1983 Toyota Celica Supra
Thanks guys, I'm going to go kick the tyres again, take it for a test drive and talk deal sometime this week hopefully.
Got activated on toyotacressida.net too![]()
Going to give this one a miss, took it for a spin (they go pretty well) and pulled the oil cap off and there was a enough white shit under the cap to sour my mood. Drove it back, told the guy who didn't take it too well (wanted to drain the oil for me there and then, um no thanks). Looks like the car has been driven only 10k in the last year going by the service stamps.
if it doesnt get driven much you will get some condensation in the oil giving it a milky cap. if you like the car otherwise either go back with a compression tester or get a mechanic to do a TEEKAY test to confrim the presence of exhaust gases in the coolant

Yeah, when I swapped another 4AGE into my AW11 there was frothy shit under the cap which had me worried too but for this it wasn't just the milky shit, it was the slimy crusty shit underneath it that made me go hmmmm.
Its not a great sign either way but the car drove fairly well, interior needed a real good clean up.

1991 Toyota Cressida Car for Sale | $3,200 | NSW: Regional - Boostcruising Classifieds
Going to take a look this weekend, its a little expensive but considering the wheels (I like), front brake upgrade (Needed to do for a legal 1JZ swap) and general mechanical condition (I'm told its good, it went to the Toyota nats so thats a good sign lol) if I can get it for $3k I'll be happy. I would of pissed off stock wheels fairly quickly, brake upgrade was an absolute if I wanted to drop a 1JZ in and I figure if the engine is all good I'm happy to pay for it. Afterall, whats the point in buying a car with a BGH, getting it home, ripping off the head and finding the fire rings have left their mark, the head is warped badly or the block is corroded. I fix this shit for a living, I dont want to spend my spare time working unless I want toOnly thing it needs is a set of front seats and a small ding to be pulled from the back 1/4.
Guy was pretty genuine on the phone not that it matters much![]()
brake upgrade is a must with a stock motor...

Got it
Good:
Drives nice
Auto feels great
Suspension feels fresh
Brakes well
Looks fairly straight
Engine made it 400k without eating any coolant
Everything seems to work
Bad:
Steering wheel rice, not straight
Dent in passenger side sill. Looks like trolley damage or its been driven over a curb. Its nothing huge, doesn't enter the cabin or extend underneath. Might look into fixing it down the line, pretty sure its not an issue for a pink slip either.
Dent on the drivers door, not sure what caused it but I'm not overly fussed
Few paint chips on the bonnet
Few bits of trim could do with a tidy
Overall I'm happy, little annoyed about the sill the more I think about it but its not a huge issue.
my daily also has a dented sill
care factor = 0
