thats always been the case river. hence why an unhappy cop can defect you for basically anything if hes s inclined

edit, in germany and the EC, they took the route that any mods/parts can be done as long as the aftermarket parts carry an EC/EU standards emblem, or come with paperwork stating they meet these manufacturing standards. parts not labelled etc need to be passed by a single signatory company (tuv) who are contracted by the govt to offer standards assesment, and have facilities to test shit

helps keep a standard to the available parts here if nothing else. and makes guidelines easy to follow

    farkin!!
Lol I know plenty of factory cars that would fail that test, standard caldina brakes would too. Seriously how often does one stop from 100kmph, 15 times in succession on the road. Also the question has to be asked once one person has passed said test does anyone using the same setup on the same car still have to be tested or are they able to use their results. Ie they don't brake test every Commonwhore that comes off the production line just the one car used for ADR testing.

Eg AP Racing kits for Commodores/Falcons, test one kit on each model prove it meets ADRs then pass each subsequent kit based on this anecdotal evidence. It goes against basic science to repeat the same test over and over again and expect a different result.
    If in doubt power out

    FUCK THAT!

And I thought gettin demerit points and anti hooning laws in the territory sucked, you guys have to pay to get your car checked?

Unless its major (like airbags etc) you dont have to worry about getting your car engineered up here, just pass the rego check...

RAAAH23, this is so true, the amount of times I have heard a car registered without the mechanic even seeing the car, I have lost count of. A slab of Crownies solves all mechanical problems

    Best of luck guys

    Is this retropsective?

If i have an engineered car now that has lapsed (blue slip) will i need to do this again?

Peter are you still part of the governing body? From what i remember your retired.
Are you having some say about this also? Surely you know this is over the top!

    Hi,

What shits me is, in NSW, you have yearly checks and now these proposed mod checks, yet we pay the most for car insurance.

Technically, with all these annual checks and other crap you would think the cars on the roads in NSW to be the safest. If this is so then why isn't our insurance the cheapest?

and they don't have any money either

Ed, in EC do the parts just have to be manufactured well, or they need to be proven to pass the equiv of an ADR, for the specific application? (like "CARB legal" mods in US ).

there are already parts and kits being sold in aus that meet ADR specs.. but the kit route seems a bit crap for people with half an idea (admittedly a pretty small % of the population)

option3 rent a PO box in NT and register a v8 FSM Niki there!

as has been pointed out ; this will deter more people from properly engineering their modified cars. i wonder how long before it comes down to the revenue raising state (sorry speed cameras save lives i forgot)

welcome to the lie called life that we all apparently lead

from what i understand, they dont need to be tested per se, but they must be manufactured to a certified standard. whether that means material, design, processing, etc etc. obviously those certified manufacturing standards meet functional requirements.

and there is some recognition of foreign standards as well. for example, tein shocks are manufactured to a japanese certified standard, and although not as straight forward, there is a reciprocal recognition of standards equivalence.

so its not all about kits, but individual aftermarket parts in general. really puts the kibosh on importing cheap chinese parts as they wont get passed.

ill soon enough find out what required when i get the supra looked at, what with its custom caliper brackets etc. but i have everything photographed and documented, so hopefully not toooo painful (or expensive!)

    cheers

    Hi,

What about fitting of these parts in Germany?

Do they require fitting by qualified personel, or can you add parts (the approved/certified) parts/accessories to your car yourself?

from what i can understand, you can fit these parts yourself, but once fitted, you should cruise by the TÜV station, and have the fitment confirmed.

that said, ive installed x2 tow bars on both mine, and a friends car, then went to TÜV, and they gave no fark how it was installed, just that the parts carried the necessary standards stamp somewhere.

Im pretty sure you have to provide a residential address for where your car parks overnight, but you can supply a different postal address... mail redirect anyone?

P.S. Since we got speed camera's up here, the first year we got them the numbers went down. The year after, they went back up higher than before, and have stayed around the same. I work for the goverment, and 99% of the shit that go's on is because of the beancounters

so if you had say.. a big brake package.. like F50/350mm size, and it met manufacturing standards.. you could put it on any car from an escort to a merc, with no real regard for the appropriateness of the vehicle/brake combination?
there must be some aspect of approval that considers if a mod is appropriate or not? or not?

and although not as straight forward, there is a reciprocal recognition of standards equivalence.
that would be nice in aus.. but would be detrimental due to increase in import parts/tyres (not that many parts are made in aus in the first place....)
