hey guys,
just helping a mate with changing his water pump on his jzx90 from a hydro fan to the jza80 setup, while taking off the pump we seem to have snapped a plug, any ideas what this is for?![]()

it's the efi water temp sensor, from the looks of it you can take out the sensor from the plug and then get a new sensor, I don't know if they are compatible with those from the 2JZ (as given above) but the p/n for the 1JZ efi temp sensor is 89422-20010
so how crucial is this going to be, we are throwing in a water temp gauge i assume this is just the sender for the temp gauge in the stock dash?? or are we going to throw it back together and throw a shitload of error codes?
it shouldn throw error codes !!!
you just wont have a workin water temp gague on your dash
if your puttin an aftermaket one in then there should not be a problem..![]()
It will if it's the EFI temp sender. Won't know coolant temp to set corrections etc. Will substitute in a default value and throw a code.

yeah, the plug you circled is for the EFI temp sensor, it's the one with the two socket. For the gauge it's the plug with one socket
I recently changed my efi temp sensor after diagnosing my 2500rpm idling the thing was broken inside hence no continuity, funny thing was the car did not show any error codes, once I changed it idling went down to 1500, still high but only just today found out that the ECU's ISC circuit is not working by swapping in another ECU, a bit off topic sorry
As said, it is the water temp sensor for the Engine ECU... not the dash.
As said the single pin just above your broken one is for the dash...if you had broken the single pin one, you'd have no temp on the dash (No big deal)...
But the broken engine ECU water temp sender will make the engine run like crap (Unplug the one on your engine for example) and should also throw a code.
I did a quick cross reference for Maverick in THIS thread that may help you...
To sum it up AE9x, AE10x, AE11x ST16x, ST18x, MX83...should be the same
Cheers

But with this plug fucked, can the car still run (read: drive around daily) without konking out or fucking around....
Probably will be a bit shit on cold starts. I don't know why you wouldn't go to a pickies and get a sender off of any of those more common motors...

It will run average with that sensor broken / unplugged.
Go and unplug it on your 1jz and see how it runs...
The engine ECU uses that sensor to work out how hot / cold the engine is.
The fuel required for a cold engine is significantly different to the fuel required for a hot engine...hence the sensor, and compensation built into the engine ECU
The engine ECU will detect that the sensor is not plugged in and throw a code...but I'm pretty sure it will run quite average....
