I'm just wondering if anyone knows the weight of the following 4AGE engines and gearboxes together.
16v small port with C51
20v with C56
GZE with E51 or E58
I'm considering a conversion to GZE but I still want my car to handle like its on rails. Obviously the extra weight of GZE and the larger box would have some effect, but without the weights I can't tell.
I've searched the old forums, the new forums and google, but can't find em...
This is going to be a hard one to track down actual figures for.
I would suggest that the difference in weight between these combinations is going to be CONSIDERABLY less than taking a fairly small adult passenger.
(I would guess no more than 50 kilos)

The instant power your gonna get from the gze is gonna out-weigh the 4age weight difference.
But the 4age is better balanced and will be more fun to drive with its revvy nature on track.
If you only after speed the gze will out do the age on the track.
I ran my 20v against time by my friend's gze prior and the times of gze were much better even though i though i was going faster. With the Gze you just have to ease into the corners but have the torque to pull out at full throttle, whilst the 4age you pretty much have to get it right going in and out cos you don't have the instant torque to pull you out.

The GZE is actually considerably heavier, heavy enough that my front springs on the AE92 sagged from Superlow to StupidlyReallyBloodyLow.
The heavy bit on the GZE isnt the supercharger, rather it is the E58/E51, and the extra weight in that.
From memory a 16v GE is about 120kg, and a 20v the same. C-series boxes woudl all be about the same weight, around 50kg at a guess.
The GZE will be the same as a 16v GE, with about 20kg of supercharger, and at a rough guess an extra 70kg of box.
My AE92 was still easily able to handle on rails, i just had to run heavier weight front springs (in my case, the entire car was on superlows, and then the fronts went to just lows, increase in preload).

what car is this for. i have driven an ae92 with GZE when it had stock CS sus and then when it had full whiteline kit.
the suspension made the handling, not the weight. i think you would be ok, if you got decent sus setup. the little extra weight will be well worth it![]()

unless you are trying to get 0.5 of a second off a lap time and you have a very very expensive suspension setup, it wont make much diffrence to you, with regards to handling. just put another 20 litres of fuel in
all weight matters but the extra torque of the gze more than makes up for it.
the dry weight of a ge is 157kg (I don't know if that is with or with out box). the supercharger weighs no more that 11 kgs (1ggze one weighs 13kgs) and as stated above the ze box is heavier but will help to balance out the weights of the car (helping to turn better left and right, rather than just right).
Currently I woud say that if you where on your own in your car and you took a corner as fast as you could (lets just say untill you hear tyre squeal) you would be able to turn to your right at a higher speed than to your left (due to weight transfer) with the addition on the ze box you would help this a little, not as much as having a passanger though. But as stated above you may have to stiffen your front springs to cope with the extra weight.
All things equal, I would go the ze, put the bigger pully kit on it, and you would have enough power to pull out of a corner quicker than the ge and hence you shoud be able to get quicker times around a track. your driving style may have to change but not dramaticly.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help guys, didn't even consider the wieght of the heavier box offsetting the weight of me and the engine.
Hmm, I might go buy that GZE afterall![]()
Takai - you are one weak little bitch arent you?
I'd put the weight of a C series box at around 25-30kg... and the E58 box at about 50-60kg.
Kinda similar comparison of a T50 to a W series box... and then a little more.
I can pick up the C series without too much drama.
I struggle like hell with the E series box though!
...... butt scratcher?!
hahaha i have no trouble at all moving the e58's about . have 3 lsd ones and move them from shed to shed when im doing a monthly clean out. lol you just pick them up and carry them.Originally Posted by The Witzl
the heavest car part ive thrown into the back of a ute by myself was a bowtie 350 chev race block, just to make it harder there was a pallet in there to tie it to,bloody high up when there is a pallet!
so they cant be very heavy if i can lift them, lol im only a small bloke.
lachie if you havnt driven a gze one, your in for a treat! they make a rolla fun.
Yeah yeah, years of rock climbing makes lifting stuff annoying.Originally Posted by The Witzl
