Default Mass Air Flow Meter questions...Help please..

now i have 2 AFM on my hand, one is from Datsun and another one is from Toyota (i guess). how can i identify that which one's output is from 0-5V Wide Throttle?
i measured Datsun's unit, if readings is taken with respect to variable resistor with the negative terminal in the AFM, it is 5-0V, but if i take the same reading from the variable resistor with respect to chassis ground, it is from 0-5V.
if i disconnect the AFM terminals out from the AFM unit, my ECU will make the engine idle like a diesel truck (massive black smoke). so i guess my engine accept 5-0V. am i right?

if its massivley overfueling at idle, with logic, my guess is that the ECU is telling the injectors to run the duty cycle they do at WOT, so, my guess is youve got it backwards.

if AFM was disconnected from the ECU, the ECU sees as if the input is floating high or low?
