Heya Folks.
Before anyone starts, I have searched the forums, and have found the related threads in regards to the EA Falcon alternator upgrade.
I don't want to go down that path. (they're big and ugly!!)
Basically, I am after an alternator upgrade for my 2TG build. The standard (45Aamp?) alternator isn't going to cut the mustard, as I'll be running an aftermarket engine management system, along with quad throttle bodies.
I plan also to run a couple of other electrical accessories, and I require at least a 90Amp Alternator.
I would like to ask:
a) What other alternative alternator could I run (that's internally regulated) apart from the EA Falcon option (preferably a compact 90Amp +)
b) Would anyone be able to shed light onto THIS ALTERNATOR (Click Here...)
Thanks heaps
Ramez
Honestly do'nt get the falcon alternator it'll be off the car more then on the car with problems
I'd go with that alternator on that link you've got i've never used it but it's a straight up bolt up with with almost double the amperage. But $650 is a bit pricey.
Otherwise what i have done before (not for a 2TG) was keep the outer housings and swap it with internals of another alternator for more amperage it worked beautifly but you need an alternator book to see which parts are interchangble it took me a while but i worked it out
Yeah the falcon alternator doesn't interest me one bit!!!! $650 american for that alternator is very steep and thats still not landed here in oz........
i'm looking for a direct bolt in or close enough to it to minimise the potential of things goign wrong etc..
Thanks for the advice though
anyone else know of a possible alternator????? or can tell me what the alternator in the link is from??? thanks guys..
Presumably the same alternator?

These are always available on Yahoo, and price is cheaper direct. They usually have a few listed at the same time.
Would also be interested to know its source.

Neighbour Don Dawson, who saw the wombat's body, said this did not appear to be the case. ''It looked quite healthy apart from the fact it was dead,'' he said.

Hi, I used a 90amp alternator off a landcruiser for my 3TGTE, there was a little bit of mucking around but it did fit relatively easily, I can probably dig up the spec's and give you a run down, most of it is in my head but hopefullyI wrote down the part# in my book somewhere.
Cheers Brendan

Hi,
I was in the same situation - the old 45 amp hour unit was struggling with fuel pumps, ECU, injectors, thermo-fan and upgraded headlights.
I got the current model Land Rover Discovery 75amp-hour alternator fitted to my 18R-GTE. It was a bit fiddly, but it is the same size as the stock unit, so no issues with size or pulley wheels differences, etc - plus, like all modern units, has an internal regulator.

Hi,
The one I used is actually 80amp. I used an alternator off an FJ80 landcruiser, bit of a rare model, had the 3F motor before the 4.5L twin cam. Probably best to buy a new one as opposed to searching the wreakers as they were originally rated at 65amps
The OEX Part # is DXA430, get the brand new unit as it is higher amps than the rebuilt unit, the DXA430 is the new one. RXA430 is the rebuilt one at 65amps.
The bottom bolt and top bolt are in the exact right place, but the body is slightly larger which will restrict belt adjustment, put the smallest belt on that will fit. I don't think I had to grind the adjuster bracket to compensate for the larger body, if I did it was really minimal. The foot spacing on the bottom bolt is slightly further apart, I had planned to use a couple of thick washers to take it up, but when I got it, the sliding steel roll pin had enough length to take up the distance. No mods were required to make it fit.
It came with a plug extension on the inbuilt reg because the cruiser has a different plug in its harness to the plug in the alt. So I just cut the wires and used the plug that came with the alternator, this was handy as finding a plug may have been difficult.
The hardest part was finding a pulley to suit the front, the cruiser alt comes with a big single 15A belt pulley, which is no good as the little 11A belt on T series motors does not fit. The pulley off the original 3TGTE alt did not fit on the cruiser alt either. As a mechanic I had about 15 old alts sitting around ready to go to the tip that I had pulled of various vehicles, I just found a pulley and spacing washer that fitted and lined up the belt properly, maybe I fluked it by having one sitting in the garage that I could use. Maybe the 2TG alt pulley would fit, or it may just need a custom spacing washer made up, you will see what I mean when you pull your pulley off.
Hope this helps,
Cheers Brendan

Hi River/Ramez
I have been helping Ramez of the weekend researching into alternator options for Ramez's project, scouring the local pick'n'payless wreckers checking out possible alternator candidates, (if I look at one more alternator, truly, I'm going to vomit!!!) On Sunday, after seeing you mention the Range Rover alternator option in your Trini thread (sweet car BTW!) I looked at the online Bosch Alternator catalogue, and I must correct you here.
Pre '93/94 Range Rover, they ran a 1V pulley, which is appropriate for the T/R/etc series motors. Anything after this vintage, and it runs a serpentine belt pulley, which wouldn't be appropriate, without an adequate pulley swap (not sure if it would be possible to salvage the original 2T pulley, as I can't confirm the shaft sizes between the two alternators)
Cheers
Alex
