Not a toyota but second best thing lol.1996 skyline gtst. Out of all the places the coolant had to leak its slightly leaking from the welsh plug that is on the head but faces the firewall. Now naturally if done properly the gearbox will have t come out. I cant see myself spending 400 bucks or so when I want to sell the car.
I lose ambout a centimetre a day in the overflow bottle if that.
Is it possible to get my hand there when its cool and fill it up with silicone like stuff to block it or is the pressure too great and it wont work?
wire brush it and blow it off with cleaner then jam as much silicon in there as you can, its about the only thing you can do without taking the plug out.
If you can manage to get a centre pop in there u may be able to hit down on the leaking area with the centre pop and it may close it up a bit.
Thanks Jeffro. Someone mentioned some product called Devcon but I dont know what it is
devcon is sorta like a liquid metal, u mix it up and apply it. area must be clean tho. Another dig may be epirez or some sort of epoxy.
Devcon is the way to go for sure if you want to bodge it up!
It is a two part apoxy and is known as liquid steel as it is as strong as its name suggests. It can be filed and sanded after it has set.
I call it 'liquid gold' as it can be used on anything and tends to get you out of trouble.![]()

hi guys i have the same problem with my sisters 4AC.. its leaking coolant from the welsh plug.
Can anyone give me a few pointers as to what is involved in removing and replacing this plug?
It looks like its easily accessible.
Thanks, much appreciated
Eric
If you can get to it easily, just whack one side of it with a punch until it tilts or falls in, then grab it with some vice grips and pull it out.
Grab a new one*, find a socket which fits inside nicely and hammer it in.
* - Preferably before you pull the old one out![]()
Strange things are afoot at the circle K
Thanks easier than I had expected![]()
Eric
put a bit of slaz round it too, when you hit it in, making a perfect seal,
