Thought I might ask here since google has bugger all. Currently looking at possibly putting one of these into my KE70, I know they are pretty rare with parts reasonably dificult to get but has anyone here used one? I think the sump may cause me issues (it's basically flat, so may need to lift motor or make custom front sump) but comes bolted to a W56 so otherwise should be fairly straight forward. Will be replacing an 18RGEU, mainly because I really like the idea of a V8 and this is a lightweight option.
So, any major issues I need to know about? Not expecting massive performance, but should at least equal the 18RG give the extra litre of capacity? Any idea on factory power? Seems the 4L version is 190ish, so maybe 150hp?
Callum
I think these were Iron block motors, not being particularly light.
you may be able to sell it to some kind of enthusiast and pursue the 1uz option, if you were wanting a light V8.
then again, It would be cool to have a 3v powered ke. (for uniqueness)

95 Kw for the 3V. Not 100% sure on engine weight, or how it would weigh up against a
1UZ.

From old forum, looks to be a good 50-60kg lighter than 1UZ. Also, conversion costs are minimal compared to trying to getting a manual 1UZ puts it out of the question.Originally Posted by tomvale13

They are an all alloy motor like the UZ.
Cheers Brett.
PM Jaffa. He had a TT 4V in a TA22.
And just to be annoying, I'm gonna suggest you use a 3VZFE. Shedload more powaHz and EFI reliable. Correct sump. Only issue is the bolting up of a gearbox for RWD format.
Hehehehehehehe... I THINK it would be WAAAY cool! The car will be tough to make handle... but having a baby hemi in there will look sweet!!!!

That would be sensible though, and I'm yet to see anyone call a KE70 station wagon converted to a ute a sensible project.Originally Posted by gianttomato

Basically this opportunity has come up for NZ$1,500 with all the manual stuff done, running W56 box. Already have 18RGEU in, wired and running with W55 attached. But I've alway liked the idea of a V8 and info I have so far (could be well wrong) is the 3V will end up lighter than the 18RG. Not been built as race car or anything (thats what the Starlet is for) but just as something I want for a toy. So practical considerations (other than fitment) aren't really an issue, I doubt its even going to make more power than my current motor.

EDIT - Price jumped, becoming much less appealing.

i seem to remember Jaffa telling me about 10 years ago, that they shared some bits with M-motors (7M???)... bottom-end bits. sorry my recollection is so vague, but something to look at if you can get the parts/numbers side-by-side.
Johnny Cash is my Navigator.
And the plan is back on the table, this time modified at 3.7L and with an adaptor plate rather than aftermarket bellhousing. Will know in the next few days if I get it.

After this thread I ended up purchasing 2 complete 5v's from japan for my ms63 crown, there on the way here now.

Mine wont be here until next month, there currently on a boat here.
This is the only resonably clear pic I have of the sump configuration, no good for a crown obviously
