    Default hub adapters Good/Bad???

    Hey

Just thinking of getting some wheel adapters main reason is for an extra 30mm stance on each corner

Are they bad for anything in particular, will they put to much stress on the hubs, am i gay for thinking they will make the car look wider

    Thanks for opinions

Besides being illegal, yes they will put added stress on bearings etc, having said that Porsche used spacers on a lot of their cars for years so if done properly they are safe. 30mm is getting up there though, why not just get the right offset wheels?? (or as close as you can)

Wheels with 30mm extra offset will put just as much strain on the bearings and be just as illegal as spacers/adaptors.

I had these made for my ma61. There hub and wheel centric 20mm spacers. I'll be running over 500rwhp with them.

Noice, thats the proper way to do spacers.

True, but you have more chance of getting wheels engineered with upgraded bearings etc than spacers. Having said that loads of people don't give a sh1t and put spacers on anyway, the hubcentric ones like Tripteks are the go.

Heaps of people run spacers, its just all the bad stories end up on the internet

There was a guy on ebay that custom made hub centric ones locally to ur specs, i bought some and were faultless, intill i got new rims with better offsets.

From an engineering perspective, 20mm would be about the limit for the slip on spacers like Tripteks (in fact, personally I'd be uncomfortable using something that thick as a slip on)

if you're going to go 30mm, it would be preferable to use bolt on ones.
Firstly, because you've got enough metal thickness in the spacer to countersink the nut on the wheel studs to prevent them protruding (20mm thick is enough to do this as well).
Secondly, you're using shorter threads to secure the pieces together so there's less chance of them shearing & then using the strength of the spacer to transfer that load.

If you have a look at the thickness of a standard cast wheel hub, they're not often thicker than 10mm.

Just for an example of what is considered safe and can be legal in NZ -
Slip on, hubcentric up to 25mm
Bolt on, hubcentric up to 27mm
Any spacer though reqiures the vehicle to be certified and there are guidelines around what can be safely done. Generally they are not encouraged just to push out track width though are there are limits on the offset you can run, offset is counted as including any spacers or adaptors. There are allowances for when hubs have been upgraded.

Refer to my sig. I hate rice. Not only does it make you look like a tool, it's an unnessasary expense and attracts unneeded attention. Most rice generally ain't gonna do much good for your car anyway. All that money just to show off - not really worth it.

P.S. Not a personal attack, just my 2 bob's worth.

I'm running 15mm slip on like Triptek's. Hub and wheel centric. Engineer that made them had them running on old race cars for years with no probs.

Granted they don't tend to go over pot holes... but I don't intend to either.

fwiw: i've seen largish bolt-on "hub-extenders" on rally cars and they appear to cope with the punishment. A lot of it comes down to good engineering.

    nah they are fine !
the only issue ive had is that they are a **** to get off.

they can transform the look the look of a car so well.
Also the fact that decent offset wheels are so hard to find makes these a good option

I've seen a set of bolt on spacers fail & it wasn't pretty. Mate had a set on his sprinter for a drift day & the studs bent the rear end was wobbling all over the shop. He was lucky it let go in a slower section of the track and could limp back to the pits.

Unsure of the build quality of said product but given the workmanship on the rest of the car it would be reasonable to assume they weren't cheap chinese knockoffs.
    If in doubt power out
