Im a rookie when it comes to the purchase of a turbo,(or any thing car related, but very willing to learn)
you all seem extremely bright, so i was wondering if any one has turbo' d a
1985 2.6 litre mitsa sigma, tell me what turbo to get (power, without a blown engine), and would i need a custom manifold, and all the other problems and solutions with this instalation.
and also what size intercooler, cheers
reguards
jack
(sorry it isnt strickly toyota related)
man could u seriously be bothered ?
sounds expensive, and hardly worth the bother, buy a GSR motor or somethin will be better in the end
ah the astra oilburner engine?
Hmm i reckon you'll end up with a blown engine if you turbo it
You'd need to do alot for it to handle a turbo for any decent amount of time. Lower compression pistons, oil lines for the turbo, custom manifold to fit the turbo.
Its a carb motor like i am thinking of? or more upto date EFI?
mmm i'd just put that idea to bed and buy a turbo toyota to begin with for cheaper.![]()

Well its all i got , mum turns up with it, i suppose it gives me a year to save for a sprinter with my new job , (if there are any left)
so i figured might as well clean it up a little preformace wise. only want a medium turbo and
a cooler, its kinda a waste of time, but ive never even sat in a turbo car , so this way i could![]()
the engine could take it, driven buy old ladie, its an emmac shit box![]()
120 thousand gen K's, any suggestions poeple
there is a VR-4 2.0L Twin Cam you can get and its efi and you run a nice safe 12 psi on it with out intercoolering it
urant you are right![]()
aww the dream is over![]()
all that stuff with the pistons would cost more than the cars worth to do![]()
thank you, and whats an EFI ?
o WAIT STUPID QUESTION ITS electronic fuel injection,
when i get my sprinter, id like to do a famous, 4agze conversion does this require me to get EFI on it, or does that come stock?
That comes stock. All ready to roll for supercharger goodness. You won't look back compared to the stinkma. (sorry the sigma wern't that bad, i still got one kicking around, burns the oil but seems to keep going)

Taken from sigmaturbo.com;
"Under the bonnet the Sigma Turbo used the 2.0 litre, SOHC, Astron 4G52 four cylinder equipped with a completely new intake manifold and a Garrett Air Research T03 turbocharger sucking through a Zenith CD 175 carburettor.
Compression was reduced to 7.8:1 with boost running at around 8lb. This increased power from 64.4kW to 116.0kW despite a lack of intercooling or water injection. Driving through a standard 5-speed Borg Warner manual transmission the Sigma Turbo covered the quarter mile in 16.8 seconds and ran to a top speed in excess of 200km/h.
By current standards 116kW and 16.8 secs may not sound like much, but back in 1981 a Holden 308 V8 offered only 10kW more power, while any car that could manage a sub-17 second quarter mile was considered quick. "
I'd say trying to get your hands on the stock parts from one of these would be probably the cheapest route to getting a little more out of your car

whats the best for drift, turbo, or a super charge?
i know the principle behind a turbo but have no idea how the supercharger works, some one/
explain to a noob ?![]()
thanks for the link
knew a bloke once who had one that ran 12's. too many dollars on the motor for my liking. better off chasing an import motor. or maybe just buying a toyota...
thank you heaps!Originally Posted by ehendrikd

you could always just increase the airflow to the throttle body with a POD filter, some extractors, a nice 2.5: exhaust with maybe a 3 to 3.5" cannon. It would increase the power by about 40 to 50KWs. I have done it to my mates gemini and yeh it worked really nicely. Hes running 15s done the quarter. Which is a good time for a N/A car.
Neways thats just my suggestion.

Mate the Sigmas are bloody awesome.
I bought one with 200000ks on it about 4.5 yrs ago for $100. New tyres on it and payed reg and that was it. I just serviced it and paid rego and thrashed the shit out of it, rallied it, top speed runs, burnouts, commuting, parts carting, music festivals, the girlfriend even used it for about 2 yrs. Only just got rid of it as I bought a sprinter for the gf, there was still nothing wrong with it.
They are awesome I reckon!
But yer, best bet is to source yourself a complete GSR turbo engine and do the whole transplant, otherwise you may be able to pick up everything required for the turbo conversion off someone who has upgraded their factory Turbo setup.
Dont give up mate, your doing something that not every drift kid is doing, stick it out.

Gee, I wonder why Mitsubishi never thought of this instead of spending all that money on a turbo setup for their "new" sigma to gain the stated 50kw increase. Puh-leese, those mods are never going to increase power by 50kw in a car that would be lucky to be putting out much more than that in the first placeOriginally Posted by ST185 Celica
