sorry guys but im a complete newbie and cant find the information regarding this.
At first I couldn't get the engine to start but i quickly got over the problem by cross checking the wires with wiring diagrams. now it turns over but doesn't fire up... i double checked the wiring and it is all seems ok, im sure power is getting from the ignition to the igniter, ecu and injectors....
Im not too sure what to do from here. Can anybody help with troubleshooting this problem or where i can find more information
thx
1. check if it is getting spark.
2. check if it is getting fuel.
go from there(that halves the number of places to look)
oh and check fuel pump is running too.
and triple check wiring, do it step by step, it's reeeally easy to overlook something you assume to be right.

Ok
fuel pumps are working and circulating. must be the spark?
tommorrow ill rip out the wiring and check again
rep up!
check you injectors too, fuel pump is only part of the picture. you should be able to hear the injectors "clicking" as you turn the car over.
spark is easy to check, so you should be able to at least get some banging out of it. if you get banging, check the timing.
i just had the same problem with my 4a. if you have fuel and injecters are working, as well as the igniter, check the coil followed by the dizzy.
good luck

I searched for months to find a wiring problem on an engine I have in the garage, and found none. Then I charged the battery I was running it from and away it went.
Worth a try.

nope none of those i dont thinkOriginally Posted by shinybluesteel

pulled the efi wring out and im checking it and cleaning it up some at the moment. see how it goes in a few days when i put it back it and get it ready again. ill try troubleshoot it starting from the wiring
thx for the feedback guys
REPUTATION UP!
try disconnecting the return line off the fuel rail and see that fuel is coming out (when you turn the ignition on). Further to what has been said; air + fuel + appropriately timed spark = running motor everytime.

YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
pull lead out stik screwdriver in it get some one to crank it if u get zaped yay you have spark if you dont pull coil lead out of dizy try get zapd again if you dont the rotor is prolly earthing out or wiring is rong , if no spark still test ignition module
How about you get your mate to hold the screwdriver and you crank it or better still hold the screwdriver near an earth so the spark jumps to earth and no one gets zapped.

Updated 15/7/2007............ yes, I need to pull my finger out.
These might be silly questions but;
Got Spark?
Got fuel?
Pulled the plugs out to check?
What car is this all in?
What ecu / loom is it?
Has it ever started?
Is every thing pluged in?
What does it sound like? (rotor / missing / how much does it cough / tough to ask over the net.)
ithis my be an off topic sugestion, but inspect youyr fuel injector resistor..![]()

air mixture with fuel correct?
Ive checked a few things already... looks good
just wondering if vacuume lines have anything to do with my problem? i overlooked the open lines.
Fuel might be in the rail but wherever the injectors open to let the fuel is another thing. I've seen this happen on a CA18 that was sitting around for ages got it going after about 20 minutes.
Pour a little bit of fuel into the intake close to the manifold then try to start.
Maybe the fuel lines ar mixed up?
Good luck.

you have open vac lines?? as in massive air leak into plenum?Originally Posted by Wanabe_Garage
one of them wasn't brake booster was it?
small leak might be ok, but big leak = car no go...
see what you can do... do you have vac line running to fuel reg? to MAP (if it has one)
to brake booster? what else....

even tho it has air leaks it should atleast try to fire up, air leaks would just prevent it from running due to not knowing the map, the fuel should still be injected and the spark should still be produced making it start and stall or just pop and rumble.
if you have spark and fuel, when turning it over does it turn turn turn then stop like flat battery then turn again then its to advanced and dizzy needs to be timed.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Thanks everyone
I have double checked the wiring against the ae86 and 20v diagrams and it is good....
...But i noticed i didn't have a O2 sensor........ You dont really need this do you to have it run? I thought it was just for emmissions.
anyway
I found that my circuit open relay was bust so i just jumped the fuel pump on the power wire with a switch for now. I replaced the spark plugs and they were very black. double checked the airbox.... no leak. vacuum lines were they should be.
Ok tried to start.... turn turn turn turnturn.... nothing..... after half an hour of charging the batt and restarting it..... still nothing........till a flat battery
not even a rumble...
I got to thinking... it could be the injectors not delivering petrol.... or maybe the ignitor and coil not working....BTW im using an ignitor/coil for a 16v(i was told it was ok from toyospares) (or just a missing O2 sensor...???)
How can i confirm whether or not these things are working?
I doubt its the timing advance as it turns nicly until im out of battery... but i dont know.
