Is it worth it? Is it done?
With the general practice being to ceramic coat the combustion chamber and extractors, it seems to make sense to coat the exhaust ports from the combustion chamber to the extractors. Would help to keep the heat in the exhaust gas and out of the head.
Thoughts?

Depends on the engine,
If you have the head in getting chambers done may aswell get ports done.
Would you expect any benefit probly not.
Unless you running a pretty hot forced induction setup i dont think its worth it
should add none of our race engines have ceramic coating (except valves)

I figured that while I was getting my chambers done, I would get the exhaust ports done too.
Has anyone done it?

you get carbon build up anyway on the ports so i wouldnt bother and it gets so hot it will prolly burn off in no time anyway.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
But if it will burn off the exhaust ports, would it not burn off the combustion chamber?

eventually.
like some ceramic coating is good like on toyota pistons and je pistons and big companys that do it all in house like make the item and coat it but to get items coated from a ceramic coating place for some reason it doesnt bind to the metal that well, maybe ive just had bad cases.
ask a machine shop or big performance engine builder.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Likewise, been involved with a few "fully sick hectic" engines. Non of which ever used ceramic coatings of any kind.
Also had a fair bit to do with a few nascar engines which only ever had piston crown ceramic coatings.
I think if it was a worth while gain it would be a bit more common around the performance market. Which its not that common at all really........
EDIT: Although, cant see it being a bad thing except for the cost![]()

just a couple of points..
ceramic doesn't burn off, as it is ceramic, it is already "burnt"... it might flake off, or spall from heating/cooling, or be eroded by solid chunks coming out of the cylinders..
i can't see it being a bad thing, BUT, many of the so-called "performance coating" shops have shit coatings and they don't stick well. good ones do.
it might help keep heat out of the water.. and keep it in longer until you get to turbo... assuming manifold and turbo are also coated...
as for toyota coatings... i have a fair indication that the GZE piston coatings are not ceramic.. and might be molybdenum sulfide...

ah ok so i should probably stop saying that thenas for toyota coatings... i have a fair indication that the GZE piston coatings are not ceramic.. and might be molybdenum sulfide....
on the edges of some ceramic coated items the coating looks like it has been burnt off, well not burnt off but the colour had dulled to a beigee browny colour. Its probably just bad coating.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
I definately want my combustion chambers and piston tops done regardless.
Where is the best place in Australia to get it done? Postage etc is not an issue, only quality.

dollars > sense
buy pistons that have the coating on them like some JE's http://www.jepistons.com/dept/new/pr...coatings.shtml im gonna try them next time.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
i haven't used, but HPC seems to have less complaints from what i have read....

I used PROcoat for PHOBIA. Came up very good.
Give Stuart a call on 0407 895044 or 02 43889946.
Tell him PHOBIA gave you his number and he will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the procedure or what you would like done.![]()

When i got my 18rte built by Swift Engines they were doing a range of interior coating on cyl heads, ports, valves, pistons, turbine housings etc. Can't quite remember the business that they sent it thru - was either Performance Coatings or HPC.
You could give Peter Herriman (spell?) a ring at Swift to get the name of the coatings place they use.
Probably was these guys: http://www.competitioncoatings.com.au/index.html
Same address as Swift Engines
Hmmm, competition coatings is just around the corner... Might drop by and have a chat.

FWIW I'm getting a couple of my turbo manifolds coated by Competition Coatings at the moment, for the black extreme coating the bill is $220ea + GST, 4cyl steam pipe manifolds.
