Hi every one
One of my mates asked me what i was doing with the stock turbos of my 1G and could he put one on his Hilux 2.8D. I know you cant put a diesel turbo on a petrol engine. Any help would be good .
Cheers Case
my boat suits drifting.
does diesel have larger exhaust housing?

Ouch, 1 turbo from a 1ggte on a 2.8L... :S

Seems pretty pointless to me. Don't they run out of puff, with the pair of them, on the 2L 1G? Let alone a 2.8.

Diesel revs are a lot lower though, so flow-rate would be a lot lower. Large capacity + low revs = small capacity + high revs

True, but I still think a turbo designed for 1 litre of petrol engine still won't be up to the task. Also remember diesels typically like a larger exhaust housing than a petrol engine of similar power output, so that little CT12 will likely choke it.

i think he means BOTH turbos,
probably be alright with the twin setup on it,
but why would you waste money on that, when you could pick up a t28 for $2-300 and be easier to fit, more cost effective,
ct12s are good for the bin!
No, he didn't say anything about putting both on. I agree with both it might work sort of OK, but just one definitely won't.Originally Posted by case

best way is to slap it on. and if it doent work sell it for what ya got it for? thats if you can make your own mainifold?

I ment use one or both,a hilux surf has one Ct12 on it.
Making a manifold would be no problem, and yes the CT12 are worthless to me.
So it might work but he is better of geting a turbo to suit his car and go from there.

the 1kzte off the top of my head has a ct12a turbo on it. dont know about different exhaust housing sizes but it certainly is a tiny turbo. and thats on a 3litre.
remember you also want it to be boosting at 1200rpmno point in having diesel that isnt on song until 3000rpm. even on my petrol hilux it spends huge ammounts of time under 2000rpm when in the dirt.
I was wondering about diesel turbo Vs petrol turbos too and their requirements.
Obviously diesel you want it spooling as early as possible, so you have a.. larger?.. exhaust turbine?
Is there any sort of general system you can use, ie. a 2 liter petrol engine turbo would be fairly suitable for an 3 liter diesel?
Sure diesels only rev out to 4000RPM, but they also run leaner, around 18 - 21:1? therefore more exhaust flow?...
Sorry for stealing the thread, I just thought maybe someone could add something that may help everyone.

Stoich AFR for diesel is pretty similar to petrol. They have compression ratios around 18-21:1 though, maybe you're getting them confused.Originally Posted by NeoNasty

a diesel under low throttle conditions runs extremely lean can be in the range of 100:1 remember a diesel doesnt suffer preignition like a petrol as it only injects the fuel at the intended moment of combustion and always swallows its swept capacity of air per cycle.
