what oil to use in a 7mgte??

hey boys about to do a service on my car this arvo and gonna get some oil soon
just wondering what oil u recon i should use
my engine doesnt blow any smoke, done about 120k km
car has a few oil leaks
and engine has been modded etc so i wanted the good stuff
i think last time i used a 5w40 or 10-30 or sumthing
wat do u guys recon

I'd be going 10W-30, 5W is a bit thin.

I use Penrite HPR10, 10w50 in both cars. Works a treat.

fully synthetic or semi synthetic? I had magnatec in mine and got hot and thin on track... with stock oil cooler though

Semi, I change it every 5000km and it's never caused me any grief.

hey guys, jsut thought I'd reuse this thread with help with recommendations on oil. "You know what I mean.."

I have an older orginal engine (67 Crown) and have been advised to use Penrite 'Classic Medium'.

Are there any other brands, types that anyone could recommend?

older engine, high ks, possibly less than "new" parts, id use a thicker oil above 10w30w

FACTORY RED FLUID! Amazing! Where would I purchase that? Im assuming from Toyoata service centres?

Another guy here at work suggested 10w40 aswell so perhaps I might go that. I'd ask the guys at Super Cheap (across the road) but I really don't trust them all that much.. maybe not ALL of them.. but just the ones who look hungover and are really struggling with cleaning the shop windows.

use a 20/50, its cheap,thick and its only a 4m.

I would be recommending a 20w 50 like either gtx original or gtx2, or visco 2000 for these older vehicles. 10w 30 is basically for post 2001 vehicles as has higher detergent level.Oils are getting very specific to models in newer vehicles to cope with cooling and emissions etc. Older vehicles require different oils due to different tolerances and design.

yeah, listen to this man.. in the off chance u thought i was being serious, i wasn't! i just had to be the random 'plug on BHG' guy that turns up in every 7M thread...

id suggest something 15W or 20W honestly... most 7M's are getting hell tired by now and higher weight is going to be better for it.
