My engine rebuild is to start very shortly, and I'm having trouble finding parts to reco the oil pump, ( or a complete unit ).
Toyota don't have kits anymore, but do have complete pumps for around $335. I have rang up 4 different parts shops and none of them can get either pumps or gear sets.
Has anyone bought the parts recently and where / how much were they?? Or have people not bothered as their old pump was still in perfect working order.
A couple of engine shops I have spoken to have both said that this style of pump doesn't generally stuff up, so if I can't find one, its no big deal. I'm a bit hesitant to risk a brand new motor on that though.
What are your thoughts???
If you have the Workshop manual, then it would be worthwhile just checking to see what the Factory allowable clearances are before its recommend that a new Oil Pump be fitted.
I think there is a User on here that deals with NZ Toyota and may be able to work out a better deal for you after Shipping costs.

Give Castle Hill Toyota a call, I got one about a year ago when I rebuilt my engine, I'm sure the price was in the low 200s, not over 300

I've compared the GTE and the GE and even 6 / 5mge oil pumps and they are the same.
Same vein gears, same sized (internal) housings, even same sized inlet and outlets.
As far replacing them, I haven't had to buy one. (So don't know if that's any help)
I am in the process of finishing my build (7MGTE) and just stripped down the oil pump that was already on the engine, checked the specs to the workshop manual which they were fine so I put it back together and decided to stick with that pump..
I have also heard from a few machine shops that it is very rare to have problems with these pumps and will also be installing a oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on things..
Marc,
Thanks very much for the replies guys.
